I'm tired, boss. Tired of being on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain. I'm tired of never having a buddy to be with, to tell me where we's going to, coming from or why. Mostly, I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world every day. There's too much of it. It's like pieces of glass in my head, all the time. Can you understand?"
I came across this elsewhere this morning, and it sums up how I feel, especially in light of the parade.

(951 posts)Or the ability to "put yourself in other's shoe's", so to speak.
It is at times both a blessing and a curse.
I truly believe some people are hardwired with NO empathy and others are wired with OVER empathy, ie, they can feel and extrapolate other people's feelings...
I know this because I feel it constantly.
More people need empathy in this world.

"Shush honey, his parents must be bad to be so poor."
"Daddy, see that man helping the guy who fell. Let's help too."
"Don't you dare! People have to learn to take care of themselves!"
Just like there are no bad dog breeds, only bad owners.
It is interesting how a lack of empathy correlates with red states, imperfectly of course but there is definitely some correlation. Alberta is the most CONservative province in Canada.
To get more sense of the correlation, note states where reporting is mandatory but do not offer immunity. Few vets are going to "notice" abuse when they can suffer if they report it. In those states the "mandatory" aspect is just for show, not for effect.

(1,000 posts)generally speaking; post conventional morality, where you care about the common good and will place that above your own interests. The rest are sociopaths, only care about themselves, and psychopaths who don't care about anything, themselves or others. Guess which one, in theory has the lowest numbers? (post conventional) In theory conventional morality has the highest. I am guessing there are far more sociopaths and psychopaths than was believed, simply from cultural osmosis.
But yeah, John Coffee, I second that, I am just tired. Tired of the ugly.

(7,263 posts)IMO fuck the gloomy doomy attitudes I see too often around here.
Reality is what WE make it. Change happens with ME and YOU.
What you do matters.
I for one believe the horse WILL sing in the end.
Lets get to work.

(3,121 posts)Republicans want spellcheck put in the same category as vaccines and factual history: optional at best, preferably not used, and, ideally, ignored altogether.
It is the reason so many need The Official Dictionary of Republicanese to decipher their written incoherent rantings.

(36,551 posts)We don't have time to be distracted by fascism, & yet, here we are, fighting science-denying fascists, who think they should continue to be in charge. Like the white, Christian patriarchy has done such a great job already.

(7,263 posts)I've only got 20-30 years left on this rock, goddess willing.
It will be harder to deal with Climate issues under a right wing authoritarian country and world...but we'll have to do it regardless.
Failure is not an option.
It is just going to take a bit more work. People, not governments, not corporate cartels, are going to be the driving force in the end...and I have faith in the majority of people.
So I cheerlead to hopefully make myself and others feel a little bit more optimistic motivated - that is the best medicine for me. Misery loves company - I want misery to be as lonely as possible.

(12,457 posts)The call to heroism is always met with reluctance as it is never a call to glory but rather, IMHO, the instinctive impulse to transform the world into a safer place for the innocent. We can reject the call but in doing so we may suffer more. Accepting that challenge to transform the world is what gives our lives meaning. It can't be ignored.

I just hope it makes us work and fight harder, not give up. As Kate McKinnon said at the opening of the first SNL after trumps win: I know Im not giving up. Please, you dont give up either.
