I think our current problem is over policing, not under.
But that's just me.

(118,642 posts)bright people options. There was some talk at how you should not hire smart police. That they get bored. I call bulls*** on that. Pay them more. Make it a calling that will attract great people.

(4,448 posts)I also think it should require a 4 year degree.
Currently it takes 1 to 2 years to be trained to cut hair.
And a few weeks to be trained to be a cop.
If I had my way:
I would triple cops pay.
Cut the number of police in half.
Require a 4 year degree
Cut in half the enforcement on piddly crimes like speeding, drug possession etc.
Essentially model it closer to Federal law enforcement. Make it prestigious.
How many times do we run into an FBI agent? Quite rarely. Ever gotten a "ticket" from the FBI?
Crime would plummet.

(82,849 posts)Nobody will remember the funding, or any extra cops, and all the media outlets will simply give Republicans free play to lie about Biden and his record. Online trolls will handle the rest of it, persuading millions that all Democrats everywhere want to abolish the police, something that practically no one (and nobody that should be taken with the least smidgen of seriousness) is advocating.
