Baby formula, Tide, Batteries, Liquor and Cigarettes are all highly sought after to be resold.

At my local CVS. Apparently, it’s a popular resale item!

Only started mid 2020 at the shops in my neighborhood.

The overworked staff and I always have a cynical laugh at the time wasted doing a secure toothpaste handoff thanks to local shitbags robbing the store blind.

Risk going to prison for $1600 worth of merchandise? Peculiar life choices.

I don't have a criminal mind, but if I did, I wouldn't take such risks unless the payoff was really worth the risk. Not only was it only $1600 worth of merchandise, but that has to be split between several people! AND they still have to unload the stuff.

I am trying to understand the mind who sat at home and thought this was a great idea. It would hardly make a great heist movie, but it could make a fun Ocean's Eleven satire though.

for the negative feedback loop driving shortages and price hikes.

No sympathy or empathy for thieves.

You walk an aisle, see a picture of the item and take the ticket for it or scan it on an app. Then you give the orders to them and they are filled for you. Like a pharmacy.

You had to give them your cash register receipt to check against what was in your basket. I can understand stores going to some type of system like that. I didn't know this was beginning to be a prevalent crime.

At least its not something dangerous like cigarettes, and it's tangible, unlike bitcoin.

I always thought the key to shoplifting was acting as if you're legit and paid for it at least like you meant to and just accidentally forgot.

The time difference between loading deliberately and loading frantically is negligible, and hitting a cart while pulling away with the door still open is just classic.

We were moving to a bigger, brand new building. Movers were taking stock over. 2 guys came in, loaded up all the cigarettes and tobacco products and stole them. Brazenly, right in front of us.
