involved in the Capitol attackA Capitol Police officer delivered a pointed message to Capitol rioters in his seemingly innocuous Veterans Day tweet Thursday.
"Happy Veterans Day to all the vets of this nation!!! You are all appreciated more than you know, your dedication is the catalyst we need to make this country great," officer Harry A. Dunn wrote to start.
"EXCEPT THOSE WHO WERE INVOLVED IN THE JANUARY 6TH INSURRECTION," Dunn clarified in a further addendum to his tweet.

(50,912 posts)I would not consider everyone that served in the military worthy of honor. I would call into question whether they served honorably. Just as I don't consider all that served to be the best. Most were and did. But we know enough that it is not always the case.
At the same time. It would be difficult to distinguish the integrity of those that were drafted versus those that enlisted. Each have their own positive qualities. Those drafted didn't have a choice. While those enlisting mostly for the right reasons but then there were some that had to enlist or for the wrong reasons.

(5,897 posts)As the Army Officer's Guide used to say, not all the brothers are noble, nor all the sisters virtuous. But we all served, and that alone does not inoculate us against the consequences of our actions.
The military is drawn from society, and as such is a reflection of that society it serves. Most are good, and want to do their jobs honorably and gain from the experience. Others are not. I leave the judgement to you.

(50,912 posts)I would like to think all are good. But I have learned that is not the case. At the same time there are those that have given beyond the call and there those that become homeless or have war related mental problems. The military is not something all are best suited. Maybe the military needs to do a better job of winnowing out the bad seed and those with personality disorders. And those that do qualify provide seminars to help them deal with situations and understand how they must relate to others at home and on the job. And help provide gainful employment.

(70,686 posts)If somebody degrades whatever identity they forfeit it. When one of our politicians commits crimes or whatever malfeasance they are no longer privy to the "Democratic" label. They are lawbreakers, period. So it is with "veterans" who did this thing.
