and my husband and I were in line by 10:00 a.m. to cast our straight dem votes. Things seemed to be going smoothly with good turnout at the polling place we were at (there are three here in Anchorage).
I fully expect Alaska to go to Romney, but at least we did our parts.

(46,436 posts)although I've seen zero polling. My main concern this election is for Alaska state legislature. Because of redistricting all but one of the legislative seats is up for election. We've had a bipartisan majority in our senate (10/10 split of R's and D's - some R's joined with D's to make a majority). Our oil shill governor hates this bipartisanship with a passion and has been actively campaigning against not only the dems but the republicans in the majority. It's an extremely important election because it will determine whether the gov gets to give a $2 billion a year tax break to the big 3 oil companies. The senators managed to hold him off last year, but if Sean's oily cronies get elected, it will be Corrupt Bastards Club all over again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_political_corruption_probe

(11,461 posts)it's as if every election states like Alaska are instantly put into the red column by polling organisation without any polling information.
I find this very disheartening.

(46,436 posts)They like Romney because he's a businessman and this state runs on oil. I don't think most Alaskans have much use for Ryan's extremism on the social issues. By and large, we're pretty libertarian like a lot of low-population western states. We always rank toward the bottom in church attendance. Not to say we don't have our religious nuts, but they get a lot of push-back.

(46,436 posts)which is pretty stupid when you consider the percentage of Alaskans who are federal employees.

Beautiful country! Can't forget visiting their home and standing on the front porch watching literally dozens of eagles perched in the trees and flying by.
