I listened to the Rachel Maddow Show podcast this morning while walking and learned this. In every 1st presidential year election since
"Poppy" Bush, the incumbent president's party lost governorships in both VA and NJ.
This year, we won one out of two, breaking that cycle. She castigated the DC media for their ridiculous take on this. Elsewhere, I read that DC media barely said anything when Democrats took the governor's races in both states in IMPOTUS' first year.
So what gives? The beltway media is execrable.
Why are we listening the them? Why are we freaking out here and elsewhere? Why are we not celebrating what was a pretty good night for Democrats?

Ronald Reagan is the last president who pulled this off, the last time a president managed to lose only one of those governorships

(6,377 posts)Both of them, we have by razor thin margins.
There's still a year to go to change things, but Tuesday night indicated that the midterms are gonna be ugly, and we'll lose the House and Senate. And if that happens, Biden's agenda goes down the drain because Republicans will bring Congress to a screeching halt and refuse to pass ANYTHING.

(42,316 posts)How do Democrats following the media's "Dems are big losers" narrative help us win in 2022?
Seriously, how does that help? We should be out there saying, except for VA, which followed historic trends, Democrats did great on election night.
All this woe is us, we're doomed messaging is not helpful.
"Woe is us" just creates apathy when we need enthuasism. People on this board should be celebrating our wins. Thank you, mcar.

(30,613 posts)Still scary to be in VA, but at least it's a less gloomy perspective.
