Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAlmost got arrested yesterday by pissed off cops.
Went to a fast food place and the cops had pulled over a driver.
The driver did everything asked of him and cops were pointing three guns at him.
I stood on the sidewalk and watched the whole thing.
The driver was afraid, I was afraid for him.
The cops yelled at me to go inside the fast food place but I stayed on private property.
I just watched them.
Maybe I saved the guy's life.
The cops were pissed dealing with the driver.
The cops took the driver away.
Hope he is ok.
I stood my ground.

(67,112 posts)But not with guns and all. I was sitting in traffic, two lanes at a very busy intersection at a red light. I glanced over at a parking lot and noticed a big cop had apparently pulled a guy off into the parking lot.
The guy was running around his car, first in the trunk, then the front seat, then the back seat, back and forth ... then waving his hands in the air like really frustrated or something.
The cop just stood there watching him. Then, the cop saw me watching, so he stared at me, glaring and glaring at me. I looked back to see how the light was doing ... still red ... the cop saw me look back again and looked as if to say I'm coming for you MF'er. Anyways, the light changed about then and I drove on with all of the traffic. I have no idea what was going on there, but it was rather bizarre.

(2,962 posts)This was out of control.
Three guns, really.
The driver was out of the car, hands out.
Jumpy cops.

Just cuff him.
He pulled over for the cops.

(6,865 posts)He's 300 lbs, a big, 50 yr old guy. They shout and cuff and accuse and throw him in the back seat (wrists scraped up pretty bad). Simple case of falsely detaining9about 30 min)without probable cause. They were after a dealer they lost sight of 2 miles away in, what they said, was a similar auto. He was getting off work as restaurant manager, driving home. Ticketed him for resisting arrest but didn't arrest him? were they stupid or not? Judge threw it out after asking a few pointed questions which made the cops look like lying fools. Those LOE's got clean away with it. No follow up, no reprimand, no warning. Resisting arrest with no arrest?
Judges are the culprits. It was wrong, a pure case of stupidity with authority and a weapon on the public streets. Those stupid bastards are still out there, on the force, harassing whoever they want, whenever they want because at 3:00 am they have no body watching over their shoulders. That's because most people think that at 3:00 am the only people out are criminals or cops. Yes, they were both over 6' but my stepson was 6-2, so they roughed him up to even the playing field.
The judge, fully knowledgeable that they were essentially armed morons, joy riding LEO's on a Thursday morning, LET THEM SLIDE! Until judges, like this lady, look themselves in their mirrors, in their ivory towers and see how they are the frightened ones, afraid of the monsters they've created. These judges must get some balls and batman these bastards for there are only predators and prey in our society 24/7 and it's their job to fix it.
No guns were pulled in this incident. Had there been, this old hippie may have acted out a bit. Democracy, thy name is not fear.

This might not have been a traffic stop. Maybe the guy was wanted for something.

(2,962 posts)I was walking my dog I had in old railyard.
All of a sudden several cop cars surround me and my dog.
They throw open the car doors and all of the cops point their guns at us.
They looking for a tall man with a shotgun.
I do not fit the description.
I thought the dog and I would die.
I held on to her collar tight, and got on my knees.
Finally a female cop shows up and tells the men to put down their guns.
She said they were looking for a man with a shotgun.
I knew where the guy was, he was down by the bayou.
I told her where to find him.
They all took off.
I got a settlement from the city.
I knew the fear the driver had.

(90 posts)I have had the police act threatening and place their hands on their guns when I was stopped for a minor traffic violation several times. Once had a cop pull a gun on me and that was frightening. However, I have also had the cops assist me or a family member when we really needed help and I was thankful for them being there. The best thing you can do is leave them alone, be respectful, and don't get on their bad side. I know there are situations where you don't know what to do.

(1,739 posts)Sounds like the cops felt like they had the situation under control well enough to start looking around to try and extend that control beyond the suspect at hand.
Maybe they were concerned for your safety......but that's YOUR choice, not theirs.
Even being in the picture would force them to deescalate rather than risk harm to bystanders.
Probably not their first choice. They would prefer to have complete freedom to choose their own ending.
I think you made a difference.

(4,552 posts)Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, and strong regimentation of society and of the economy. Wiki
In many areas of the country policing has gone full fascist. We the people must make it stop. It is way more than a few bad apples.
The rich and influential fear the poor man and they use the police to insulate themselves. They fear the unwashed masses because they know they have taken way more then their share. The rich know the history of the world. All the wealth at they top has never worked.

(1,786 posts)MAY have been reasons for them to be on high alert. Maybe not, but always keep that in mind.
Regardless, it's a pretty dangerous thing to distract them in a situation like this. They are all amped up already and you never know what they might do.
I would recommend taking video, but do it from a great distance. You don't want to be anywhere near multiple cops if they start shooting. Most of them can't hit the broad side of a barn even under calm conditions.
Texaswitchy
(2,962 posts)I was not near them.
The driver put up no fight.
He did everything asked of him.
The cops were being jerks.
After about 5 minutes they cuffed him and put in the car.
They could have done that to begin with.

(2,962 posts)I just stood and watched.
I was by the door of the the fast food place.
People were coming and going.
The people waiting at the bus stop were a lot closer.
I was one of two people paying attention.
The driver looked confused at first.
He had been behind me for about three blocks.
The first cop car came out of nowhere and put on the lights.
The driver pulled into far edge of the parking lot.
He did everything asked of him.
