Herschel Walker is often seen and seldom heard

(Walker is what they used to call an 'empty suit')

Herschel Walker is avoiding public events and questions from the press, even as he settles in as the frontrunner for the Republican nomination for US Senate in Georgia. On Saturday, Walker gave his first public speech since announcing his campaign at Donald Trump's rally in Perry, in central Georgia. The address lasted less than 10 minutes, with Walker leaning heavily on platitudes and nods to his biography.

In conversations with half a dozen Republican operatives, including some associated with his campaign, there's a consensus on the best public strategy. Walker does best by laying low. So far, the campaign is placing Walker in tightly controlled events and limiting his interviews to friendly outlets like Fox News. Otherwise, Walker's schedule keeps him largely behind closed doors, including during his ongoing "listening tour" with business and community groups.

For now, the campaign is operating under the assumption that Walker's celebrity in the state of Georgia plus the endorsement from Trump will be enough to carry him through the GOP primary. But Walker's association with Trump has many GOP strategists worried. "Everybody I talk to in the Republican universe who isn't being paid by [Walker] is terrified," said another GOP strategist in Georgia, who requested anonymity to speak candidly about private conversations.

That's largely because Georgia has gone from solid red to purple in recent years. The state voted for Joe Biden after voting for the Republican nominee for six straight presidential elections. Running Walker primarily as a Trump ally against the incumbent is Democrat Raphael Warnock is a risky wager.

Hopefully, GA continues on the path to sanity and eschews the kind of shit going on in AL and MS.

Mr Walker is probably sufferering from CTE, so he would fit in with Southern repubs just fine.

fantasy football draft. Yup. We were playing before most people even heard of FF.

The Cowoys sucked that year. He led the NFL in total yardage, but only scored two TD's. Most leagues back then only scored for TD's, TD passes and kicker points. So he was a total bust for me. The when he went to the Vikings, whoever picked him got screwed again, as did the Vikings! That asshole took the big money, then just played not to get hurt after that.

Well, maybe he's smarter than we are giving him credit for.

on edit: not sticking up for him in any way, just sayin' that in that particular circumstance that was probably the smart move.

I can't really blame them. I think Doug Martin with TB may have played them his last couple years. He tore it up the season before he was going to be a free agent, then never did much the next couple of years. Then he retired.

None of what he says is good. He has proven to be very good at being banned from social media for making racist, homophobic, misogynistic, xenophobic, abliest and classist statements.

I think he suffered too many concussions on the playing field. It's difficult for me to believe that he actually graduated from high school.

9. A friend of mine, who was at recent UGA events w/ Walker, said Walker can't walk well.

He moves really slowly and is really stiff. It was extremely noticeable, according to her.

I’m sure that Walker’s handlers don’t want to have his health and mobility compared to Senator Reverend Warnock’s. He’s not going to be out in and amongst the general public like Senator Reverend Warnock was on the campaign trail and is in office.

Like Walker, my friend’s husband later played pro football. Football is hard on the body, especially the bones and joints. However, her husband and most all of the other players move and walk much better than Walker at this time.

My friend’s husband also played for UGA. They were at the opening home game recently and there was a reunion of the 1980 championship team. There were several events for the former players and their spouses.

BTW, my friend is a Democrat who will be voting for Senator Reverend Warnock again in 2022.
