The British Empire abolished slavery in 1833, and Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are all independent, have parliamentary governments, and universal healthcare. So...in the long run would the Revolution have been better lost than won?

remind them of the fact that we would never exist as a nation if it wasn't for the French. Lafayette, Rochambeau and the French fleet made it all possible.

...of the surrender at Yorktown. He was in the pulpit at the time the news was carried to him. He turned to the congregation and told them that decorum would not allow a cheer, so they should join in silent "Huzzah!"

And they did. Three times. Arms pumping in the air.
