Is there a limit on how many times you have to pay $10,000?

Like if an entire group focuses on a woman, do they all get to sue her individually and in essence, bankrupt her?

Edit: I mean sue the people that help her. Can they sue them multiple times?

The Texas legislature really did not think this through. I hope this bounty bullshit clogs up the court system for years.

It is an affirmative defense that you’ve already paid the statutory amount to a different claimant.

7. The problem with that is that the statutory amount is not capped.

(2) statutory damages in an amount of not less than $10,000 for each abortion that the defendant performed or induced in violation of this subchapter,

In other words, a person who has paid $10,000 cannot claim to have paid the full statutory amount to a different claimant, because the statutory amount has a floor, not a ceiling.

4. It is such an ill-considered bill that such questions will bring it down.

Nobody bothered to analyze questions like that when it was written. So, it will be found to be both unworkable as well as extremely unfair in terms of equal treatment under the law.

Stupid people make stupid laws.

The ACLU/Planned Parenthood/NARAL are going to be all over that shit. And if the Supreme Court opinion is to be believed, they will have standing and the courts will be able to block this shitshow.

They passed legislation against the minorities.
Now against the women.
Disabilities.
Unions.

Whoa, this sounds awful familiar.

If Provider A does ten abortions, for ten different women, would there be 10 cases against that provider?

12. The woman cannot be sued for her own abortion.

But her abortion would provide fodder for the bounty hunters to target doctors, nurses, uber drivers, you know, anybody who had any fleeting relationship with her private decision. I assume there's no limit to how much bounty could be acquired for one abortion.

…getting sued and having to pay out $10,000 to multiple people. Like a gang up to bankrupt a target.

a bounty hunter can get. Or how many bounty hunters can suck off the same pig trough.

I think the point is humiliation and punishment for anyone who wittingly or unwittingly participates in providing a private medical service that's protected by the Constitution. Without blaming the woman personally. That would be unconstitutional.

What a farce.

Until men are inconvenienced by the draconian laws they pass to control women's bodies they will continue to press forward. Someone should run a Stop Fucking campaign in TX.
