A 10-foot python surprised a woman in a supermarket spice aisle. She was a trained snake catcher.
AUGUST 19, 2021 / 7:36 AM / CBS/AP
Helaina Alati was browsing the spice aisle of an Australian supermarket when she came face-to-face with a huge snake. The head of the 10-foot-long non-venomous diamond python emerged through a space in a shelf above the spice jars in the Sydney store.

In this image made from video provided by Helaina Alati, a snake protrudes from a grocery store spices shelf, Aug. 16 2021, in Sydney, Australia.
"I was in the spice aisle just looking for something to put on my chicken that night so I didn't initially see it because it was curled up way back behind the little jars of spices," Alati said Wednesday. "I kind of turned to my right and it poked its head out."
Alati who, coincidently is a trained snake catcher said the snake's head came to within 8 inches of her own.
"Thankfully, I have a background in snakes so I was pretty calm about it. It definitely shocked me a little bit because I wasn't expecting it," she said.

(60,014 posts)a 3 foot long black rat snake crawled into some shrubs and was curling around the inside of the window (still outside, but clearly visible). More entertaining than the movie!
I've also had copperhead snakes crawl across my hand as I was clearing out my garden. And both of our dogs (years ago) were bitten by copperheads during walks.
Snakes - they do exist among us - and always provide some surprise and drama!

(2,528 posts)My wife called me to the basement one night claiming there was a snake in the drop ceiling. Not one to argue, I grabbed a 5-gallon bucket, a small step ladder, and my headlamp.
Sure as spit, I could hear a snake slithering across the ceiling tile. So I hopped up on the step ladder, turned my light on, and lifted a panel.
I didn't move the panel more than 6" when the sonofabitch slides out of the ceiling to the carpeting below. Seeing this happen within 3" of my nose while standing on a ladder - in super slo-mo to boot - is something I'll never forget. It wasn't even terrifying; more like "huh - there's a four foot snake. Falling from the ceiling. Right past my nose. Don't crap your pants."
I scooped him up in the bucket, carried him upstairs, and took him for a walk in the woods.
