An elementary school teacher is in the hospital after being attacked by a Sutter Creek, CA, parent over the schools mask mandates. A district dad came back to campus after picking up his daughter and confronted the school principal. He was angry his daughter was forced to wear a mask inside.
When a 6th-grade teacher tried to intervene, the argument quickly turned physical. The 6th-grade teacher was left bleeding with bruises and cuts to his head and face.
Dr. Gibson sent a letter home yesterday to the entire district about the attack, expressing her disappointment
(saying) this likely wont be the last on-campus incident over mask policies. I anticipate more of this happening across the state, especially in rural areas where this is just such a division, she said.
District leaders say theyre disappointed this is how the school year started.

And, the teacher should sue.

(4,050 posts)First, we need to recognize the we are tribal people. Pick a team; sports is the clearest example.
Religion, politics, interests, desires, tastes, style and fashion choices are some of the signs/ marks/ wardrobe within which we strut, flashing our colors, our choices, desires, beliefs and identity.
Individuals mix up their 'self' with all kinds of things that are not them.
So when someone else insults, say their state, they are personally offended.
The sight of a mask becomes a personal affront to the triggered tribal team individual who takes it as an attack upon their intelligence, politics, supremacy, or similar silly stuff mistaken as equal to 'self'.
We hear about " identity politics" but I submit that a better understanding can be had by understanding "mis-identity" politics.
Politics = ethics = morality = how we judge ourselves and those others, our worlds and others around.
Who is on my team, who is worthy, who is in fact 'human'; or conversely, who can I attack.
We must begin to teach our children well that they are individuals in society, not individuals surrounded by society.
We need to teach epistemology and logic; how do you know that you know and what is validity.
Conservatives and religion-ists often opine that morality and ethics and doing good requires God without which there is no measure of good.
I submit that ruth, justice, the American or any other successful way requires validity, a measure of fact without which there exists only the great-deceiver.

(4,050 posts)We too often overlook the programming that we carry from the unremembered past. Inner-child tantrums continue in adults who aren't.
Some individuals are evolving and some are devolving; some are born with previous unremembered bad habits, others with good.
It is all karmic trajectories. This truth can be seen in just this one life now.
Bad desires, bad choices, bad actions, all become bad habits of individuals who do not shine because their 'ego' is too darkened by ignorance.

If masks are mandated, they're mandatory, no flexibility.
That said, I need more than just his claim that he saw unmasked teachers.

(16,481 posts)The father came back a second time and saw a couple of teachers without masks. The kids were mostly gone by then, presumably. He was enraged seeing teachers unmasked when his kid came out with her mask on.
