(12,606 posts)That's what you get when you have a president who is more concerned with serving all the people -- Democrats, Republicans and Independents -- than feeding his oversized ego. It also shows the benefit of having people on both sides of the aisle who know how legislating works managing the process of negotiating the bill.
After four years of hell, the adults are back in the house.
Too bad the GQP doesn't care about the right to vote as they do bringing home the bacon to their constituents.

Surely those DU people couldn't have been wrong?

Biden is the right president at the right time. And if we have fewer conservatives after COVID, we might get more liberal laws passed in the future.

(1,879 posts)This was all about the US Senate getting a watered down enough bill where the right people got their cut so they could go home and tell people they aren't a do-nothing government employee in service to a disgraced traitor. And many of them aren't even up in '22 or running again.

(10,461 posts)Doing what a Democrat is expected to do on infrastructure?
Bottom line is, if she doesn't get behind some kind of filibuster deal on voting rights, future republicons in control of the House, Senate and WH will repeal this just as fast as they will then repeal Obamacare. And they'll do it quickly.
Voting rights and reform is an absolute necessity.

(11,226 posts)The bill she did the heavy lifting on. The bill she was the point person on. The bill she got the Republicans to sign onto.
But keep on finding an excuse to bash her.

(10,461 posts)Just pointing out the facts. Future republicons can and will undo anything we do now.
This is great, and I'd like to keep it. Without voting rights guaranteed, we won't.

(15,325 posts)THIS is the years-tested skillset of the Democratic Party at work, before our eyes.
THIS is why Joe Biden is President
Honestly, to prepare, negotiate & get it to a Pass vote in the current political climate is a phenomenal task.
Remember when the odds of passing this were ZERO?
Congrats Biden, Schumer, Pelosi & all of the Establishment wisdom of our Democrats.
Now on to the 3.5 trillion budget plan.
Bring it on home Democrats!!!

I guess that fizzled.

Good job, Democrats! Go fuck yourselves, republicans.

(972 posts)Next up - infrastructure with reconciliation.
They say that if the other bill gets passed thats all they will be able to do until after the midterms (except for bills like naming Post Offices).
I hope Biden can prove them wrong on this. Its really ridiculous that important legislation for the people can only be accomplished in the first 2 years.
If so its reconciliation year 2022! I dont think Joe is going to be satisfied with the status quo in years 2-4.

(1,654 posts)A political and substantive win for President Biden, especially if the reconciliation package also goes through.
Very unfortunate that the Cuomo news is overshadowing it right now-- couldn't Cuomo have announced his news on a different (ideally earlier) day?

(2,541 posts)However unless legislation gets passed protecting voter rights when the GOP takes back the majority as they most likely will if the legislation states have been pushing gets passed. They will just pass legislation undoing this bill.
