After being renewed several times, the executive order relaxing telehealth rules expired a few weeks ago.
It's buried in this article

(8,387 posts)A lot of states have bans on telemedicine.
Quite a few states made temporary exceptions by emergency executive orders during the pandemic.
Florida's expired.
What has happened in Florida appears to be a return to the status quo in that regard, and not an affirmative act of some kind.

(12,717 posts)This expansion was to allow doctors to prescribe scheduled drugs and suppliments without without going through the office visit requirements (a procedure the government started requiring about 10 yrs. ago to reduce addicts and drug seekers from doctor shopping).
So now, the poster mentioned above can't get their prescriptions refilled over a telehealth call as they were able to previously, and they no longer has access to transportation.
Puts them in a pretty untenable position.

(8,387 posts)The "fascist tactic", if one can call it that, was using an executive order to suspend that ban.
That said, it is a really good idea not to elect stupid people to office.

(3,911 posts)That you find the expiration of an executive order to be fascist. If anything, rule through executive order is much closer to fascism than our normal legislative process. Emergency powers are great in the short term, but we are far too deep into this thing and elected legislative bodies need to do their jobs and create laws to deal with the problems we face.

(42,490 posts)conducts its business. Not very Republican of him, is it?
After debating for years with right wingers arguing that the government should stay out of the free market, and that it is socialism to regulate a business, suddenly a Republican thinks it should not be up to the free market! The state can tell the businesses they cannot require masks for entry onto their private property! The cruise ship lines suddenly don't get to have terms on who they can let onto the ship!

(11,760 posts)Up until recently there were states that restricted the use of tele health for psychotherapeutic services. California was one such state, but because of COVID-19 and advances in secure communication, those restrictions have loosened.
I am assuming, because it is DeSantis, that he is doing so for some stupid reason because he is, well...stupid.
Context please?

(21,754 posts)Medicare changed the rule for the pandemic (to allow telemedicine) and it has been great for us because my wife can see her psychiatrist and therapist on Zoom. She is in poor health and at risk from the virus more than most people, so it keeps her safe, and there is honestly absolutely zero reason she should be going to an office anyway for visits that involve no physical exams.
I hope Medicare keeps the rule in place. The other advantage is I don't have to take time off work to drive her there for the appointments anymore lol
