We use the Eagle as much as anyone. That’s not a Nazi symbol.

our iconography, but I could be wrong. Of course I know that the eagle is our national bird and a major symbol, but this one seemed oddly "off."

It has its head toward peace (olive branch) No lightning bolts, unlike the (to me) odd distortion.

Lightning bolts have long been used on a number of U.S. military unit and division insignia, the SS did not have the exclusive franchise on the use of lightning bolts as an insignia or symbol. Take a look at the Special Forces (Airborne) patch.
