(14,922 posts)We are already required to have annual flu shots and regular TB testing. Anyone who refuses a covid vaccinaction poses an unacceptable risk to patients and fellow employees. People have become ill and some have died due to infections brought into facilities by unvaccinated staff.

(58,721 posts)unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Healthcare has been a growth industry, I suspect it has taken on some workers who's primary concern is for paychecks, not patients.

(1,737 posts)We had a heated discussion at work about this the other day. The majority opinion- healthcare workers who decline the covid vaccine should choose another profession/ Situation is too dire for healthcare workers to peddle anti-science bs. While the very loud minority spoke about the USA being the land of the free. Also, they aren't anti-vaxxers or anti-science but "freedom fighters."

(6,852 posts)I've been dealing with the healthcare industry quite a lot lately. 30 days ago I had a 3-A bypass (I believe that's what it's called). After surgery I was given a sandwich by a nurse which, unbeknownst to me, was outside the surgeon prescribed "clear liquids" diet. Later, when I was informed that I was on the liquid diet by the dietician I asked that nurse about it. She says she knows better than the doctors. Really! this 30 yr old child who couldn't use my name but insisted on calling me "my love" took it upon herself to "out smart" the doctor. I asked for a CPAP machine (as I'd been told by the hospital not to bring my own from home) at 3:00 pm. I can't even nap without it. I got it at 8:00 pm but it was out of service, the mask didn't fit and the technicians had no replacements for either. I had 5 nurses and 2 technicians in my room at one point all pledging to "do their best". My wife had to finally bring mine from home.
More than once they asked if I had an app on my phone because I needed that app to keep up with my progress. What manner of fools and idiots are these creatures?
Some of these "heroes" are in real need of being shown how expendable they are.

so you would would only have to replace 5% (if 75% of 20% cave in) to around 8-9% (if 2/3rds of 25% cave in) of them.
5% to 8 or 9% replacement is doable.

(16,228 posts)Massive pressure. If they claim religious exemption they wear a mask all flu season. These folks will wear one all Covid season which appears to be indefinite. And they can get regular testing. Daily would be my preference before every shift.

If they refuse the vaccine then I dont trust their judgement on any medical matters.

(43,545 posts)I saw an interview yesterday with 8 nurses in Florida. All faced up as arrogant, entitled Trumpers. Several claimed they felt they knew more than the doctors and especially the CDC(most all blasted the CDC). Of course they all agreed with the one who said 'my body, my choice'. Saw a similar interview just now on MSNBC with 4 white nurses from North Carolina. EXACT same vibe and parroting of talking points.
It is maddening.

(16,228 posts)Because she has type O blood and cant get Covid.
I gently explained that some research shows she is less likely to get sick from it, but she can still contract it and carry it, and get sick, and die from it.
She said Oh, really? And got real quiet. She honestly thought she was protected. I hope she goes to get the vax.

(5,857 posts)that would excuse a nurse working with cancer patients from having a vaccine.
The only medical contraindication is history of allergic reaction to one of the components -- and there are 3 different vaccines with different components. Even with a documented history, to continue to work on a cancer ward a vaccine should be given in a medical setting that can intubate / treat in case of anaphylaxis. Allergists do this regularly in controlled environments.
i have a pup who reacts to shots. so, he gets a shot of steroids, and 15 min later he gets his shot.

(778 posts)My doctor had set up a routine check up for me in their office and I ended up stuck in a tiny room with an unvaccinated young gal. She was actually proud of it and said she will never get the vaccine and here I was, trapped with her for about 20 minutes. I'm not even sick and have no pre-existing conditions that I need medication for, but once you hit 65 and go on Medicare and have an advantage plan and choose a doctor, they pretty much bully you into going for regular checkups. I think it is insane to be healthy and be bullied into going for check-ups during a pandemic. They do have a mask policy, but many of their patients walk around with it on their chin. Doctor has been talking about setting me up for a bone scan and I think I will just pass for now. I don't want to end up in a room with unvaccinated so-called health professionals.
No offense intended for any of you here who are vaccinated and are caring health professionals.

(11 posts)Government, nor health insurance should not be picking up the tab for these covidiots, let them suffer the consequences of their selfish ignorant behavior once they find themselves steeped in the hoax. Enough pampering the selfish ignorant pricks, no vaccination, pay for it with your life and your dollars.

(1,910 posts)This is giving cover to the ones refusing. On the one hand the FDA is the 'gold standard' to the world for health care devices, procedures, medications, vaccines. But now the government should mandate a vaccine before FDA approval. Not an ideal scenario.
After 9 months the FDA can not "dot the Is and cross the Ts" for approval?
The FDA with its process and the CDC with its terribly mixed messaging over the past months are certainly not blameless here.

(14,061 posts)I assume this came after NBC News footage of an interview with four nurses as to why they were not getting vaxxed.
What these personal freedom numbskulls dont get is, they dont know the health histories/conditions of everybody they meet. Could be cancer, compromised immune systems, whatever COVID could be a death sentence for such people. Then theres kids.
Health care professionals should know this. And I, as a patient, should then have the right to be told if those treating me have been vaxxed, and to refuse treatment by them if they have not.
My ex once worked in IT in a hospital system. Had no direct contact with patients and worked at a satellite office, yet he needed to get a flu shot every year per policy or face possible termination. Why cant it be the same here?
