Candy Crowley: I Didn't 'Backtrack' On Romney Libya Fact Check

Candy Crowley responded on Wednesday to conservative claims that she had "backtracked" on her fact-check of Mitt Romney during Tuesday night's presidential debate.

Crowley challenged Romney during a discussion of the attacks in Libya. When the GOP candidate told President Obama that he had not called the attacks terrorism for weeks, Obama protested, and Crowley intervened to back him up.

"He did in fact call it an 'act of terror,'" she said, referring to Obama's comments on Sept. 12 that "no acts of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation."

Crowley quickly added that Romney was "correct" to say that it took Obama weeks "for the whole idea of there being a riot out there about this tape to come out."

mentioned a NY Times report saying that some people outside the Benghazi consulate were rioting over the video tape. That's why there was confusion in the days following the attack. If true, what was Obama supposed to do other than to inform people about the situation based on what he was being told. Does the MSM and GOP expect Obama to personally go to Benghazi and investigate the matter himself? I don't understand why this issue is a story. I remember so many conflicting reports from the Bush administration after 911 but the MSM and Dems never made an issue out of that. This is complete bullshit!

Parse words, inflections, context, source, timing, ANYTHING until viewers have to re-think if they saw what they, in fact, saw.

It has slowly moved up their page, all day. And, they are including a photo of Michelle Obama 'breaking the rules' by clapping for her husband.

Some days that site amuses me. Some days it irritates me. Today is a combo of both.

politically, it's totally a right-wing rag.

You know how it goes, Romney can do no wrong, and Obama is ALWAYS a complete failure.

It started as protests against the controversial tape and a few radicals, al Qaeda or otherwise, used it as an opportunity to attack the consulate. After all, just hours before there were similar riots in Egypt without terrorist attacks against Americans. Why should we assume that it was an terrorist attack in Libya?
