Andy Slavitt: I deeply regret that we live in a world where I have to respond to M. Taylor Greene

COVID Update: I deeply regret that we live in a world where I have to respond to Marjorie Taylor Greene.

But alas… 1/

Greene is now comparing Biden’s vaccination program to her new favorite topic: yes, Naziism.

The latest chapter in her Holocaust education fetish is not encouraging.

No one is in danger of asking Greene to teach a history class (or a public health class) (with the exception of Texas) anytime soon.

But she did learn one lesson well from the Nazis: dangerous propoganda. 3/

This bromide that anything the government does is by definition fascism is the 2020s rallying cry of Trump/Greene.

In this case it’s a lethal blow to people in the path of a storm. After all, the government is more of a threat than COVID plays well. 4/

The latest outrage is Biden daring to suggest that people go door-to-door to talk to one another about getting vaccinated.

The hardly left wing Daily Caller described what this brown shirt campaign is. Ministers and neighbors sharing their stories. 5/

Here’s What Joe Biden’s ‘Door-To-Door’ Vaccine Campaign Actually Looks Like
The government isn't obtaining personal information for non-vaccinated Americans nor will officials be showing up at your door.

Yes, Biden was encouraging Americans to (gulp) talk to each other about getting vaccinated. If this isn’t fascism, what is? What next? They will come for our guns. 6/

If someone looking out for you & listening & talking to you about you about getting vaccinated is a blow to your liberty when a powerful variant is sweeping through your unvaccinated area, it’s time to re-examine what liberty means. 7/

We all have our narrative on what this country means to us. Some of us came here on a boat. Some in chains. In my own narrative of this country, the liberty I enjoy wasn’t handed to me as a right, it was fought for & needs to continue to be in our commitment to a common aim. 8/

To make it personal, my grandmother came to the country as an 8 year old alone with a 14 year old uncle to Ellis Island. 7 siblings didn’t make it. She lived through world wars & a 10 year Depression. 9/

She didn’t come here to escape people knocking on her door to talk about vaccination. There were people who came to kill everyone in her village.

Oh and she had small pox & was left to die when her parents escaped. 10/

So Congresswoman Greene, spare us the imagined treachery of someone coming to snatch your liberty. Our liberty is earned. The burden of enjoying our freedoms is to contribute to the ideals of a country we can be worthy of.

And Congresswoman Greene, you’re not. /end

And if she did happen to read it, chances are she wouldn't understand what the gist of the message was. She's that ignorant.
