5. I wonder what the death toll is going to be here

Not a lot of AC in the PNW.

When I was growing up, I remember Chicago had a massive heatwave. There were over 700 deaths from it. And that was in Chicago, where people usually do have AC. After that, they did an entire overhaul of social services for these events.

I don't think Seattle and Portland are set up for this sort of thing.

...many people have no place for escape and are just on the street, some with doggies. One man begging for motel money (good luck finding something). Three men with all their belongings on a bench INSIDE the door at Kroger. I wonder how long the store will allow them to stay there.

Without that factor, the lows would be lower and the highs wouldn't have the jumpstart that they do.

The good news is that the power grid has continued to be up and running for the most part. But then, Oregon is part of a multi-state power grid unlike some other state I could mention.

...and expected to have back up by 11 p.m.

That's my greatest fear. Losing power. The ice storm was a real wakeup last fall.

To see if I can afford the whole house generator. The week without power was crap.

Many people out there suffering. Homeless with dogs and nowhere for escape.

I suspect the ERs are very busy.

I just put out basins of water for animals and birds.

this is the preview for the rest of the biosphere, the joys that "climate change" will bring us

murderous summer "heat domes" are going to become the norm all over the planet, as our atmosphere boils and bubbles.
