The bill would bar local police from assisting federal agents in enforcing federal laws. And it allows for a $50,000 lawsuit against anyone who knowingly acts under any federal or state law to deprive a Missouri citizen of their Second Amendment rights.
Response to the signing was swift Saturday.
The Missouri chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action immediately released a statement condemning the bill.
We are frustrated and disappointed that Governor Parson signed a dangerous bill into law today that ties the hands of law enforcement officers while Missouri is facing one of the worst gun violence epidemics in the country, said retired Sheriff Rick Walter, a volunteer with the Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action.
Missouri House Minority Leader Crystal Quade, a Democrat from Springfield, called the bill a radical, dangerous and obviously unconstitutional attempt to declare that Missouri will refuse to follow federal gun laws.

(15,330 posts)Wouldn't even need to cut off federal spending to the state.
Just move every government employee and military base out of the state.
Same with states like Alabama, Texas, South Carolina, Kentucky, Ohio, etc.
If the "big, bad, federal 'gubmint'" is so dangerous to their "freedumb", then surely they don't want an Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine base on their soil, threatening their "Const-ushion" rights.
Start closing bases and the dipshit faux news, Donnie Shit for Brains asskissers will be howling like a scalded dog.
How many fucking times does Missouri come begging, hat-in-hand, for help when an F4 Tornado fucks up their shit?
Just once, I'd like for Democrats to treat these fucked up states the same way Retrumplicans treat CA and NY.
The time for softball is over!
If Federal Laws don't apply, then they surely don't need the influx of economic activity that comes with 40,000 Sailors at a Naval Air Station.

(18,656 posts)Were not required to enforce any Federal law, that is the responsibility of Federal law enforcement agencies.
So how is this different?

(18,656 posts)To prevent Federal LE from enforcing the laws with the threat of fines. That is different.
The idea that localities can 'nullify' Federal law is ludicrous (even if nullification of certain laws gets cheered). To try and prevent the FBI, ATF and so on from their duties is simply illegal.
I expect this law will be nullified by a Federal Court very soon.

This Constitution, and the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.

(4,733 posts)state is not nullifying the federal gun laws it is simply not enforcing them. Federal law enforcement, just like with the immigration laws, can still enforce federal gun laws in MO. I am not seeing the problem here, at least if one believes States/Cities should not/cannot be forced to all federal laws.
