QAnon followers think a cicada landing on Biden may be a veiled communication from Q
A QAnon post linked the cicada swarm's natural emergence once every 17 years to "comms" from Q. This is because Q is the 17th letter of the alphabet.

Some QAnon conspiracy theorists are fixating on the fact that one of the Brood X cicadas landed on President Biden, with some believing that the insect was a coded message from the mysterious "Q."
A June 9 video of Biden swatting away a cicada that landed on his neck circulated on QAnon forums and group chats. This led some followers to wonder if this was a sign from "Q," who they believe is a shadowy government insider who is exposing top-level secrets in information drops called "comms."
QAnon is a baseless far-right conspiracy theory that claims former President Donald Trump is secretly fighting a "deep state" cabal of satanic pedophiles and cannibals.
A post in a 225,000 strong QAnon Telegram chat We The Media read: "JOE BIDEN BITTEN BY A CICADA - COMMS? Just so happens that Cicadas nymphs emerge after a 17-year childhood underground!!! What? CHILD? UNDERGROUND? 17?"

(17,175 posts)The Q-brand, I have concluded by translating the latest Q-plop ( "Fizzy con murphwig" ) will soon be branching out to include personal hygiene guidance. These will be officially referred to as Q-Tips.
By the way, if you add today's month (6) to today's day (11), the total is 17. Coincidence? I think not!

I doubt that my imagination could even conjure up something like that, anyway.

(35,662 posts)You know what the problem is, at least for some of them. They live dreary, meaningless lives. Q is a distraction which takes away from the fact that they failed to construct a life of meaning and purpose.
Seventeen years underground. Aha! Its all perfectly clear now!

(19,060 posts)I see it more and more prevalent in today's culture, really really dumb people who think they're clever. I think the internet has done away with humility. There's an air of self satisfaction with Trumpsters that is as palpable as when an 8 year old learns how to tie their shoes for the first time, that 8 year old thinks he's special at that moment.
And that's how the Q Phenomena thrives, it's all based on stupid ass clues that anyone could follow, but the end result is giving the nutcase a sense that they've figured it all out for themselves by doing their own "research" because they are an independent thinker and now super clever.
And they've got an army of tens of millions of these drooling "critical thinkers." They think they're following coded messages that are the equivalent of decoding Enigma in WWII, but what they're really decoding is the equivalent of what's on the back of a cereal box made for 1st graders to keep busy while their parents get ready for work.
And when they see some obvious sign, it gives them an endorphin rush, "I'm smart, I'm really really smart. look at me!"
They don't get it, but they're the result of the "everyone is a special snowflake" culture that they so despise. They grow up thinking everything they do is worthy of praise, everything they learn is super duper complex, and anything they say is right. They grow into adults who think that if they can change the sparkplugs on their car they're a certified mechanic, if they can install a piece of software on their computer they're an IT expert, and if they can change a light fixture they're pretty much an electrician. They think Wheel of Fortune is the pinnacle of smarts and don't even bother to watch that stuck up Jeopardy. They think finding half the words on a word search makes them an expert in cryptography.
Smart people know what they don't know. These people are the opposite of that. They don't know what they don't know and they take that as evidence that they must know everything.
