At some point I would think law suits would start to proliferate against states that do not do background checks when selling guns.. People on the right start chitter chattering about how places that have strict gun controls can have so many violent actions with guns, without ever mentioning where people go to buy guns..
Most gun violence is from within from our own population, but just to add insult to injury, foreign terrorist's do not bring in their own guns, because they are so easy to buy here.
At some point, people who have suffered losses and injuries due to un-traced guns from states who are too busy to even do a background check .. are going to sue the shorts off of state governments or gun shops..

(9,998 posts)I'm on your side, and admire your will to fight. But I've accepted what this country is, and do not expect it to ever change. I wish it would, but I have thrown in the towel. It's a lost cause in my opinion.

(22,877 posts)but for what ever reason, this morning, after this last shooting in CA and all the debate over Texas the last week or so, something snapped.. and I am geared up and ready to take the fight to the courts. Honest to God David, I have come to the sad conclusion that people care more about money than they do people, and you can get to them quicker through the hole in the pocket than the righteous moral argument..

(9,998 posts)The last 15 months have demonstrated that. They're willing to DIE for their beliefs and cult member status.
These people don't care about money. They would rather spend whatever little money they have, to purchase more and more weapons of war. They value that much more than a few bucks.
Sorry, I'll go now. I get this way every time there's one of these incidents, and it's not healthy. I honestly feel like if those prominent people who are fighting, like David Hogg, can't make any headway, there's little I can do.

(7,538 posts)Laws that prevent firearms from being traced, laws that prevent statistics of gun violence from being compiled...much like the way Big-Ag has laws passed to make reporting on their pollution or animal cruelty illegal.

(7,538 posts)We did here in Nevada, but right now our state government is busy trying not to look too Democratic. Given it's libertarian mindset and the fact that our legislature only meets every other year the state is not one I would choose for passing new gun control legislation.

It is not easy to sue a state government. Generally, a state is immune from lawsuits. This is called sovereign immunity, and it prevents you from being able to bring a lawsuit even when a state injures you. However, there are some exceptions to a states sovereign immunity. For example, the state might allow people to sue for personal injuries caused by the state.[1] Also, you can sue state employees for violations of your federal constitutional rights. In order to sue a state government correctly, you should meet with an attorney who can advise you about the specific process.
