Every winter was gastroenteritis hell for me until SARS-CoV-2 arrived. I haven’t had it for 18 months or more. I’m definitely masking up from early October to late April for the rest of my life.

but schools taking some precautions for flu season from say December to the first of March would go a long way in preventing bad flu seasons.
