stupid, selfish shits..
Police officers were among the first front-line workers to gain priority access to coronavirus vaccines. But their vaccination rates are lower than or about the same as those of the general public, according to data made available by some of the nation's largest law enforcement agencies.
The reluctance of police to get the shots threatens not just their own health but the safety of people they're responsible for guarding, monitoring and patrolling, experts say.
At the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, 39% of employees have gotten at least one dose, officials said, compared to more than 50% of eligible adults nationwide. In Atlanta, 36% of sworn officers have been vaccinated. Twenty-eight percent of those employed by the Columbus Division of Police - Ohio's largest police department - report having received a shot.
"I think it's unacceptable," Joe Lombardo, the head of Las Vegas police and sheriff of Clark County, said of the demand for the shots within his force.

(11,303 posts)If you want that actually puzzles a bit -- check out the number of 'medical staff' working in hospitals and clinics .... Don't need none of that nasty 'sciency' stuff 'round here!

(14,853 posts)There's plenty of nurses who pursued that career for the money, not because of a scientific/medical mindset. Some doctors too, but their more intense educations surely makes it harder for them to remain ignorant in general.

(11,303 posts)And, yes -- a lot of it is money (I got mine) plain and simple. What I find more disconcerting (and less forgivable) is anti-science proclivities. To me -- it's bordering on malpractice and violating Hippocratic .... (but I'm sure that depends on definitions)

(11,256 posts)You don't have a legal right to put others at risk. Nobody is going to force them to get vaccinated, but doing so needs to come with a price so that they don't harm others. It's not that difficult and they need the make a choice.

Anti-vaxxing among cops is just another expression of their severely-toxic masculinity.

Our state (Ohio), county, and city all have masking orders/regulations. They require masks indoors with few exceptions.
Doofus police officer was in a Sheetz without a mask (as were half of the patrons). When I asked him why he wasn't wearing a mask (after he falsely informed another unmasked patron that stores were free to make their own rules). He said he was just waiting for his food.
I reminded him about the state, county, and city laws he was violating and he reluctantly pulled his gator up to just below his nose (to the cheers of at least few other masked folks), and made a snarky comment under his breath.
I'm sure he's not vaccinated.
