I can tell you there is no such thing as a speed limit. Nobody observes 70 mph. The side of the highway should be packed with handcuffed people pulled over for exceeding 70 mph.

And Salisbury is the middle of rednecksville.

Fuckin' cops.

in the case of this black woman. The town's gonna pay, causing them to partially DEFUND their own police department.

There are too many that want to be cops for the wrong reasons. They like the "power" that goes with it. There are many who want to protect and help people. But there needs to be a process that makes it hard for the crazies to get through.

As an aside (and perhaps a good example of white privilege), a few weeks ago I was pulled over doing 68 in a 55. I just wasn't paying attention. My 15 year old son was in the car with me. He was like, holy shit we are getting pulled over. I told him to keep his hands where the deputy could see them. He'll be getting his license soon, so I was just explaining to him the process.

When the deputy came up to the car I gave him my license, made a joke about losing track of how fast I was going, verified insurance and he gave me a warning. The entire stop lasted about 5 minutes. Afterwards, I thought a lot about how others had had their lives turned upside down or ended with such a stop. And now that I'm looking at this, those same feelings are coming back. It's uncredibly sad and society should refuse to accept it. I'm not sure what would have happened to me or my son had a similar turn of events happened.
