what it's like for those who truly live in "the middle of nowhere"
There's all kinds of availability if I'm willing to drive an hour or two. We don't like to take our vehicle those kind of distances. It's not really reliable. Over a week since I became eligible. I check every morning. Nothing inside a 40 mile radius (although I admit I haven't check New Hampshire... but I don't really know if I'm eligible to get a vaccine in NH).
I keep thinking of people who live far away from even a grocery store, and in states where the GOP leadership isn't as devoted to getting the shots out.
I'm so looking forward to getting to spend time w/ my dad again. And maybe see my granddaughter.

(32,185 posts)What do people do who arent computer savvy? Many older folks arent.
I know what its like to have to depend on an unreliable vehicle. I Dont blame you there and surely you arent alone with this problem.
Why cant there be a vax van that goes around to rural areas and gives out shots? Like the librarys bookmobile?
I hope you can find something soon, MissMillie. Keeping you in my thoughts ....

(23,193 posts)There was no availability in working class areas until early-mid Feb - none. These that we are getting now are from Biden contracts with pharmacies for the most part with several large state run ones. I will say the state run places are getting much better than they were and are now reliably vaccinating lots of folks. Back in Jan. and early Feb. only the rich counties in FL. had sufficient supply and people from here were driving to St. Johns' county to get theirs. Death Sentence made sure all the rich repugs were vaccinated before he finally started sharing with the working class population. I really hate that guy.

(4,613 posts)when I was helping someone look for a vaccine appt here, I checked between 9:30-10PM on a Friday night, when some of the pharmacies and locations would open their schedules for the next week's appointments. From what I understand they open and schedule their appointments only a week out, based upon the dosages they are allocated for that week.

(20,956 posts)I've landed appointments for older folks there in a timely matter. They lists all the local pharmacies and availability and often vaccine used. It's fairly accurate.
I get the joy of starting my search tomorrow.

(5,199 posts)to get my first Pfizer shot, and three weeks later, the second.
I signed up on March 20, expecting a callback to set up an appointment, that never came. My class, 1c, became eligible here on March 22.
A housemate works for the hospital in the call center, and got me on the list March 20, then got me the real appointment when the previous attempt hasn't worked. If she hadn't helped me, I don't know how I would have ever gotten vaccinated. I wanted to wait to go back to the doctor for fasting bloodwork, because the last time I went I came back sick two days later. Maybe if I'm vaccinated, I won't catch Covid at the place.

(2,010 posts)it's almost irresponsible of me to post this but I *thought* I heard that NH is vaccinating people from out of state. I know in MA, the registration questions asked if I lived *or worked* in MA.
Not saying I know anyone who was able to do this. I think my source on this was a NH resident who chimed into the pre-meeting-table-talk on a work tele-meeting. And the info certainly pre-dates the tightening of vaccine supply/appointments due to the J&J "pause".
tldr: it might be worth trying NH

(142 posts)I had to create a new account just to tell you not to waste your time with NH if you don't live there. I live in Maine, but I know New Hampshire policy is stricter than Maine because New Hampshire was excluding their college students, which they were getting a lot of push back for. Maine will vaccinate you if you live, work, or go to school here.

(142 posts)Good luck finding and appointment there. My brother lives in NH and had to drive 45 minutes out of his way to get a shot. They are hard to come by there just like any place. I just got my first one in Maine on Monday. I live in Lewiston and I had to drive an hour from there to get a shot. Getting an appointment from Augusta south is close to impossible. Here's a hot tip: call your local Walmart pharmacy and ask to get on their waiting list to snatch up a cancelled appointment. I have a friend that got an appointment that way the same day she called.

(2,010 posts)Here's a source. They say in the report to use the state's website to sign up.

You can come up, place a bet on DraftKings on the Sox, stop in at a state liquor store, do some tax-free shopping and then get a vaccine. Sounds like a good day, Sununu said.

(11,138 posts)The problem is convincing Bubba to get the shot. We also have a large number of folks who got the first shot but do not show up for the second.
Bubba is going to be responsible when the variants kill thousands in the state. He'll still blame President Biden.
