No side effects so far, 3 hours later. Had to drive 180 miles here in Ireland, and my wife accompanied me, just in case there was a reaction.
However, when we got there my wife went into the waiting room with me, and while I was registering another nurse approached her to ask if she was getting the vaccine, to which she replied "No, but if you have any spare doses...." jokingly.
The nurse went away and returned a couple of minutes later to say that they had a few cancellations and because we had come so far, she could have one of the spare vaccines !!! What a result, so we both now have our first dose, and will be returning in 12 weeks time for the second. 😁

I just got my 2nd dose of Pfizer and can go home in a few minutes. I feel like sending President Biden a thank you note! You just know we wouldnt be doing this so quickly under the former guy.

(14,642 posts)My daughter had a rather strong reaction to her first one. And I tend to react to just about everything, but I did better than she did with the first one. I have much less anxiety this time. Not sure she can say the same. She doesn't go back for a few more weeks.
Right now I'm feeling a bit tired but otherwise ok. I didn't sleep well last night, so that could be part of it.
I was shocked by the length of the line when I got there. It was much longer than for my first one. I was there a total of 2 hours last time because they wanted me to stay for 30 minutes after waiting for what seemed like forever. So I figured I'd be there at least 2 hours today, but I was actually away from home for just a little over an hour. The line moved a lot faster this time.

(19,956 posts)that there were so few people there, and I suspect that the cancellations were largely people who had already been on other lists and had been done before today.

(25,938 posts)I'm now considered 'fully vaccinated.' I will continue to wear a mask, however, even after the CDC issues an 'all clear.' It has value in slowing the spread of other ailments, including influenza and the common cold.

(19,956 posts)doses this month for a change, compared to the same number of doses total since December, so it's really ramping up now.
Thought it was a city in US called Ireland. Like there is a Naples in FL, or Dublin, OH.

(1,336 posts)but only because we depend on imported vaccines and some deliveries have been delayed. I got "pfizered" yesterday -- first dose, and second one scheduled for July. However, that may be changed, once again depending on delivery.
No side effects, not even a sore arm!
We are in lockdown here in Ontario for a month because the 2nd and 3rd (and maybe 4th) variants are running amok and our ICUs are at capacity. One newly built hospital in Toronto is now dedicated to just Covid patients, and even our famous children's hospital, Sick Kids, is opening up some ICUs for adult patients.
This is scary stuff indeed. Government is eager to get as many people vaccinated as possible, and stretching the interval times is helping do that. As the docs say "If you have at least the first vaccination, you may still get it but chances of winding up in the ICU on a vent (and dying) are greatly reduced to almost nil."

(17,288 posts)I have friends in their late 70s near Vancouver who also only recently got their first shot. First I was super relieved when my husband got his first and then second shot a couple months ago. He is 85 with some health issues. About a month it opened 60 year olds and I just have Ed to have taken my sister that day for her vaccine. I asked the pharmacist if they had an extra since as of that day I also qualified and to my surprise and delight she said yes. Ive since gotten my second one also. But the good news, is you will have something like 80% protection after the first shot and 100% coverage to prevent a case bad enough to be hospitalized 🙂💖

The problem has been the UK variant being so virulent, they just couldn't open up.

(19,956 posts)especially as there have been a number of high profile scandals involving those in the know, such as a private hospital giving vaccines to 20 teachers from a private school.
However, it really was right place and time so we are really grateful.
We're on the South coast, in Munster.
This summer might be a little too soon, have a look at this article

It's the variants that is the problem, so they're trying to delay people coming in until they get 70% of adults vaccinated which they hope to achieve by late July. So perhaps the end of August and September might be better...and September is usually nice enough.
