The Law's the Law:
"No person shall solicit votes in any manner or by any means or method, nor shall any person distribute or display any campaign material, nor shall any person give, offer to give, or participate in the giving of any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink, to an elector,"
Sounds like a business opportunity to me!
"WATER BOTTLES!!! GET YOUR ICE COLD HALF LITER WATER BOTTLES!!!"
"FIVE CENTS EACH!!!!"

(6,589 posts)How exactly is "give" defined, legally?
Does it require an explicit transfer of ownership from one person to another? That's what "give" commonly means.
For example, if I just set down a case of water bottles on the grass on public property & leave, I haven't "given" it to anyone, I've just abandoned it, I've forfeited my ownership.
If someone later finds it & drinks some that's their business, I didn't "give" it to them, I just left it there. There was no explicit transfer of ownership, there was abandonment (by me) & discovery (by the other person).
That law has a ton of other loopholes, like what constitutes being "in line," & the moving 25 foot radius around every "voter" seems really hard to enforce. Many people are "voters" & many are not waiting to vote at that particular precinct on that particular day, & how can the person's intent be proven? If the "voter" decides the line is too long & they're going to go home they're no longer a "voter" & the 25 foot circle around them magically disappears, at which point they can walk away from the line & anyone can give them all the water & food they want, then they can change their mind & get back in line & become a "voter" again. How can they prove the person didn't change their mind?
The whole thing is a fiasco.

(2,868 posts)Kemp said people in line could order from UberEats or GrubHub. There could be a traffic jam of deliveries, with Pete Davidson all the way at the end of the line. You just got in line! All these people getting food made me hungry!
