Iowa had such a shortage of people in the 90s, it advertised for immigrants to come live there--agricultural states need people. Iowa is older, whiter, (fatter), and the young people are earning degrees and moving to the cities.

Iowa does not share a border with Mexico. Those big bullets are meaningless--it's a misdemeanor to enter without documentation. Asylum seekers aren't flocking to NW Iowa. The scary "migrant caravans" are unarmed, mostly teenage boys. The folks back home thrill at the thought of those big bullets piercing the brown skin of immigrants.
