Krispy Kreme CEO defends COVID vaccine promotion: 'If folks don't want to visit a donut shop, they

don't have to'

Krispy Kreme, which announced plans this week to give a free donut to everyone who gets a free COVID-19 shot, is defending itself against some of the naysayers who think the freebie could have unintended consequences.

The donut chain's well-meaning (and literally sweet) incentive sparked some backlash on social media, with everyone from doctors to comedians pointing out that obesity — which is rampant in the U.S.— is also a prime risk category for the coronavirus. Additionally, there's a history of big brands offering generous specials that end up becoming costly mistakes.

However, CEO Mike Tattersfield defended his company's intentions in an interview with Yahoo Finance Live on Friday. "We're a sweet treat company, [and] if folks don't want to visit a donut shop, they don't have to."

Rebutting the growing critique, Tattersfield added that if "folks that want to get a vaccine, if they decide to combine a Krispy Kreme pickup [for] a doughnut, they can. That's how we look at it.... generosity."

We're nearly an hour away from the nearest location. We used to have one just ten minutes away, but it closed and was later converted into some crap pizza place

actual issues that matter as they are about a free fucking donut.

Then again, nearly everyone in our society fears being perceived as "fat".

Eat the donut if you want it, if you don't, then don't eat it, ffs.

Too many complain about every single thing. I ignore most of it. Waste of time. Some seem to believe the donuts are mandatory. Lol. Idiots all over.

Besides, what else could a public-spirited company that sells donuts offer as a reward? (It would be nice if the local Cadillac dealership made the same offer, though.)

Sadly to say, my diner's offer of a free Candied-Liver-on-a-Stick wasn't nearly as successful.

Of course we went there! I simply insisted to the mister beforehand that we were not buying 12, so we got 2 jelly donuts he craved as well as the free ones. Mmmm—donuts.

Nice gesture on their part. Nice treat for us.

from getting her 2nd shot. She took it as a sign the universe wanted to reward her. She rarely indulges, herself this way.

Anyone complaining about this promotion needs to lighten up.
