Let me preface my remarks by saying David Bowie had a great body of work and is a genius. There was an article in Rolling Stone some years back about famous meetings between different artists. When David Bowie invited John Lennon to listen to his newly recorded Young Americans album he played it over and over. As John Lennon recalled he liked it enough.
I would add when I used to hear the title song on the radio while I was driving I would always drive until it was over.

(3,732 posts)We got to the restaurant a few minutes early, so my wife and I sat in the car and tried to sing along to Young Americans on the radio. Great memory.

Now that any song with Spotify is a voice command away I don't necessarily have to. Outside of public radio or the occasional college station, I can't listen to terrestrial radio.

(3,732 posts)Love the lyrics:
Skin dance back-a-the condo
Skin heads getting to school
Beating on blacks with a baseball bat
Racism back in rule
White trash picking up Nazi flags
While you was gone, there was war
This is the west, get used to it
They put a Swastika over the door

(43,184 posts)The whole song is great actually. But especially the ending. Like Lennon, I find myself listening to it over and over.
Bowie died far too young.
