GOP senator: GOP can't 'explain away' Capitol attack

BY JOHN BOWDEN - 03/21/21 11:55 AM EDT

A retiring Republican senator is urging his party not to "explain away" the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by former President Trump's supporters.

Speaking on NBC's "Meet The Press," Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said on Sunday that Republicans should not come up with "alternative versions" for what happened, an apparent reference to those who have argued that "antifa" or left-wing protesters were responsible for driving the violence.

“We don’t need to try and explain away or come up with alternative versions. We all saw what happened, we know what happened," Blunt said. "We can't let that kind of thing be repeated in our country."

"Totally unacceptable," he added.

So good on Roy for trying to get them to do so, but it'll never work on people who've abandoned reality.

Then I wish he would consider maybe supporting some filibuster busting reform. If he isn’t worried about re-election, have at it.

Many of them seem to find a conscience when they know their gravy train is ending and they don’t need to worry about re-elections and primaries, etc.

Kinda sad that it’s only when they’re on their political death-bed that they have a come to Jeezus moment.

He could see out tramp’s vacant eyes.

Blunt NEVER acknowledged that Biden won the election

He is a complete piece of sh*t and I hate that he “represents” my state

And I hate Quawley even more

11. But he won't support a commission looking at the "Why?"

Coward. Says we don’t need a commission to tell us what increased security measures we need. Personally I don’t think he wants a commission memorializing in writing who these people are and why they were there.
