really WTF kind of sense does that make?
how does allowing them to leave have any bearing whatsoever on the crimes they committed and being prosecuted for them?
I mean. OK I robbed the bank but I left so now its too late to charge me?
In what alternate universe has that ever been anything?

I guess it's just so much easier to arrest PEACEFUL demonstrators?

for you. And the Capitol police were so unprepared they were busy trying to save their own lives and had no way to arrest the thousands of insurectionists.
Now the FBI has to try to ID the criminals through tips, videos and stills online...not the easiest thing to do.
All they can do is keep plugging away at the mountains of online info they have.

(3,570 posts)And arrested the whole lot of them.
But they didnt do that.
They were allowed to go home.
And now,
The poor fools, at home, have to sit there, and wonder - when the doorbells rings....

(2,868 posts)as they formed the circle and then kept expanding outward. Talk about ass backwards and too late, they should have encircled the Capitol grounds and shrank the circle, zip-tied everybody and sorted out later who was outside and who was inside. But then I remembered that National Guard was under operating orders from the Pentagon, which was under operating orders from the White House.
Yet another reason DC should be a state with its own National Guard.

(32,778 posts)On 1/6. It takes time to build a case and then go after these idiots.
Ive seen more than one press conference by FBI agents that say they will be bringing ALL of them to justice.

(37,161 posts)...as I just got off work (something at a hearing?), but the first thing that comes to my mind is simply not enough evidence to place some percentage of the participants there. If they didn't have an electronic device that places them there, if they didn't show up clearly enough on any photos or videos, if they didn't advertise their participation on social media, what's the evidence they performed criminal acts?
It would have been a different story if they'd been detained and either were arrested or at least had to be identified before leaving.

(12,452 posts)What you're referring to is... the FBI has said as many as HALF the Capitol invaders may never be apprehended.
That doesn't mean HALF of those arrested will walk.
It means that HALF may never be ID'd

(30,613 posts)They were allowed to leave because Trump blocked the National Guard from being there. It's frankly a miracle that the badly outnumbered Capitol Police were able to get them to leave at all.
