Federal authorities have charged a Florida man who was caught on video attacking police officers with a fire extinguisher while wearing an American flag jacket bearing the name of former President Donald Trump.
Robert Scott Palmer, a 53-year-old business owner from Clearwater, Florida, was arrested on Wednesday, according to court records. Palmer has been charged with assaulting/resisting/impeding officers, engaging in civil disorder, and entering restricted building or grounds, according to court records.
Details of the charges against him, including the FBI affidavit, are not yet public. A lawyer named on his court docket did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
HuffPost, building on the work of the citizen sleuths who have worked to hunt down the identities of members of the pro-Trump crowd that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, first publicly revealed Palmers identity on March 5. The FBI had received hundreds of thousands of tips about the Capitol attack, and multiple tips about Palmers identity had been in the agencys possession for more than a month when HuffPosts story published.

(57,099 posts)... the jacket should be in the body not the headline.
I know: you didn't write the headline.

(6,594 posts)For example:
Ex-Republican Senator (says or does something)
From that I can conclude that 1) the person is a Senator, & 2) they've left the Republican party because they're an ex-Republican (now presumably an Independent or Democrat).
Then I read the article & discover that the person is still a Republican, & they're an ex-Senator.
An ex-Republican Senator is not the same thing as a Republican ex-Senator, but too many folks in media don't seem to understand that.

(8,445 posts)I'm almost enjoying that it's taking awhile to get to some of these traitors. They probably think they got away with it until one day the authorities show up with handcuffs.

(6,594 posts)They claim to be "patriots" yet they disrespect the American flag. Remember the gold Trump statue at CPAC? It was wearing flag shorts that looked like boxer shorts. So kneeling is bad, but wiping your ass on flag underwear is "patriotic"? FFS
Excerpt from the US Flag Code:
"The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery."

(7,307 posts)It evokes a very bad visceral reaction in me when I see our flag worn.

(30,745 posts)It may be because my son was is an Eagle Scout and he was taught proper flag etiquette by his troop. The two scout leaders were both veterans and taught them respect.

(12,132 posts)does the article say what his business is? I'd like to give it wide berth.
He's not the guy from RPI Funding is he? I get sick of those commercials on TV all the time.
ETA~ Oh I found this in an article linked to the OP article:
"Robert Scott Palmer is a white 53-year-old husband and father who runs Son Bright Systems, a cleaning and restoration business. His criminal record includes being sentenced on charges of battery and felony fraud. "
I wish I had something needing cleaning so I could not hire that asshole.

(257 posts)Agree that the headline is not the greatest...I always wanted to write the captions to pix and or headlines...easier than writing the whole article. One of my favorite pictures/captions in a newspaper was when Boog Powell was surrounded by a swarm of bees...the caption read "Bees bug Boog in Baltimore"
