May the wind be at your back,

May the road rise to meet you,

And may you be in heaven an hour before the Devil knows you're dead

(Now I'm going to put on my Tommy Makem and the Clancey Brothers CD.)

were Peck, English and Scottish, and Clancy, Irish. I am mostly Swiss and German but those other genes pull hard. Just spent an entire week listening to the Celtic podcast. Love being a small part of the clans.

My brother had a more detailed DNA test than most of the simple ones being sold. He sent this out to the "Klan". The translation ahead of time is we're really OLD irish.

The L226 is the marker for the Irish Type III . Then moving down are the various observed mutations that are in the chain to the most recent mutation confirmed in our yDNA, ZZ34_1. The further steps in the chain are from the yDNA of a pair of brothers born around 1800 who were "documented" as 32-generation descendants along the line of "royal inheritance" from Brian Boru. Since our ZZ34_1 is at least a couple or more generations after the time of Brian Boru, that would imply we were on the chain of descendants starting down that "Royal Line", but our yDNA went down a different path of mutations after that or maybe after the DC33.

The ones that sent St. Patrick into slavery and whose children were then baptized. Me and probably 1/3 of those with Irish ancestry.

Great-grandparents on my Mom's side were born in Ireland. I'm going to guess they were Potato Famine refugees. My Grandmother's hair was a beautiful red when she was younger!

I'm anticipating a chow down of corn beef, cabbage and boiled potatoes, carrots on the side. My husband will order the Irish Cottage pie (Shepherd's Pie). The beef and cabbage is one of my favorite dishes. And I'm donning the green today.

Btw, my Nana had a load of stories. The post reminded me of her childhood recollection of signs inside store windows:

No Dogs or Irish.

What a world! Now everyone wants to be Irish.

Happy St. Pat's Day. A round for everyone.

I pray that present and future generations of immigrants reach all their dreams here in the USA.

We Irish, my past family included - poor refugees from the Potato Famine in the 1840's and 50's, went through the bigotry and hate a few centuries ago...hang in there.
