Got #2 Pfizer yesterday, all's well. ...but...

... They make you sit in an outer area lounge for about 20 minutes, and I asked the RN if they had any people with immediate side effects or reactions to the vaccine...and she told me that 4 people...FOUR (4), seems a lot, had itchy fingers and toes. Yeah. Side effects were itchy fingers and toes. Go figure...anybody else have weird side effects?

could be the start of an anaphylactic reaction. I know first hand what that feels like. Years ago, I was having dinner with a friend who was a nurse. She served watermelon as part of dessert. I had only tasted watermelon once as a child and hated it, but I didn’t want to be impolite, so I ate the fruit salad with all the watermelon in it.

Within a few minutes, my fingers, toes, and lips became tingly and itchy. I told my friend who said I was having a minor anaphylactic reaction. She had an epi-pen handy. We waited. The symptoms never got worse and went away within an hour. I have never eaten melon since.

for a medical procedure in 1992. My throat started to close up and I began sneezing uncontrollably. The radiology tech called in the radiologist who gave me Benadryl IV which stopped the reaction.

I have reported this each time I got a shot (Moderna) and they made me wait 30 minutes afterwards each time. No response to the first shot, but Monday my lips started tingling and my heart was racing within 5 minutes. I did some deep breathing and my heart returned to normal. The tingling did not progress.

I got my shots at the Durham County Dept of Public Health. They had an EMS tech sitting at the front of the post shot waiting area. He had a radio and there were several portable BP cuffs ready to roll over to any chair. They looked prepared.

I think that if we end up needing boosters, I will definitely talk to my doc before going ahead with a booster. I may need to change to the J&J which doesn't use the component that could be causing some difficulties with anaphylactic reactions to Moderna and Pfizer.

Can you switch brands or do you have to keep taking the Moderna booster? Interesting.

My oldest son (26) developed oral allergy syndrome in his mid-teens. He's very sad that he can't eat raw things any more -- tomatoes, apples, carrots, and just about any kind of melon make his mouth and throat itch horribly. I hadn't even thought about him having an allergic reaction when it's his turn to get shots. My other son (22) had asthma as a child, so we were going to be on alert for him, but it never crossed my mind to make sure my other son mentions his oral allergies.

It's always a medical emergency. You were having an allergic reaction, not anaphylaxis. It could have been the beginning of an emergency and standing by with an epi was the right thing to do. I'd certainly avoid watermelon in the future. Glad you're OK.

My son had a life threatening allergy to peanuts. His reaction was instant. Blink of an eye and his eyes were swollen shut, gasping for air, welts all over his face, snot all over his face, etc. It was terrifying. He had to avoid peanuts for 15 years. We finally decided to try this treatment called OIT. He started out ingesting tiny amounts of peanut and gradually increased over time under supervision of a doctor. Now he is desensitized and does not react to peanut. He has to eat a dose with peanut everyday but it does not bother him. Now he has freedom to eat peanuts and things manufactured in a facility with peanuts. I have never been so scared in my life as when he had anaphylaxis. I was young and had never heard of an allergic reaction like that.

I love to run but have to manage this condition carefully, I cannot workout unless at least four hours have passed since I last ate wheat. I had a reaction a few months ago. My body quickly covered entirely with large welts, my throat, mouth and eyes all started swelling shut, and I could barely breath before I could get to my epi pen. It is extremely scary when it happens. I run with my epi pen and benadryl on me at all times.
