President Joe Biden's choice of Kamala Harris as his running mate in the 2020 election resonated with women across the U.S.
According to a report released Tuesday by Gender on the Ballot, a nonpartisan project to examine gender dynamics in politics, 68 percent of women who supported Biden last November said Harris being on the ticket was a factor in their voting decision.
For those women polled who supported former President Donald Trump, 39 percent said Harris being on the ballot was a factor in their voting decision.
Biden announced his selection of Harris, a former primary rival and a senator from California, to be his vice president in August 2020three months before the general election. At the time, Biden praised Harris as "a fearless fighter for the little guy and one of the country's finest public servants." Harris said that she believed Biden was the candidate who could unify the country.

(12,393 posts)I liked BO but Biden brought years of good baggage to the ticket. This time around, KH brings exuberance and perspective.

(2,636 posts)As much as I like her (long time Bay Area resident, so she's been on my political radar for along time), I knew she could not win. GLad to have her as #2, though.
She scares the righties far more than Biden does. One of the first claims was that should Biden win, he'd not make it through the term and the Democrats were just waiting to install Kamala.
They fear women. They fear Black people. They fear Black women the most, I think.
Too bad they didn't glom onto the whole Love your neighbor as they self, golden rule, greatest commandment thing, or they'd not be pissing in their pants.
"You mean the golden rule applies to me, too?"

(16,426 posts)I was always going to vote for the Dem candidate, no matter what, period, full stop. Kamala was a very welcome added bonus.

(47,133 posts)He knew he had found his No. 2.
The job of your bagman is to question and confront decisions.
She nailed it. Smart, confident and charismatic.
And she brought home some important demographics.
Kamala is a total package.

(26,587 posts)I would have voted for pretty much anyone running against TFG, no matter what, and no matter who they picked as running mate.

(297,323 posts)and it came nearer the time to choose his VP Candidate.. I was hoping it was Harris.
I thought she would be best for the ticket and our Victory to the WHITE HOUSE!

(9,952 posts)it really took there being a woman on the ticket for 70% to vote for Biden? Nah.

(14,858 posts)Nothing in the story says or implies that they made the decision solely on the fact that Harris was the VP candidate.

I think any of us that cheer Harris the first woman VP didn't "factor" in Harris. Maybe we were more excited voting Biden. I was. But he was getting my vote regardless.

(16,426 posts)It's actually a pretty vague statement. I mean, I was happy that Kamala was Joe's running mate, so does that mean she was a "factor" in my decision? Even though I would have voted for him regardless? Hmmm.....

(33,345 posts)and vice-versa, dipshit women GOP voters were going to vote for Biden UNTIL he put Harris on the ticket, and that made them think "oh, better stick with the rapist"?
i don't care if it's manchin on the ticket; NO REPUBLICANS EVER.

(15,222 posts)The story is sensationalism at its best. Misleading in my opinion.
As you said...
No Republican. Ever!

(58,785 posts)Harris on the ticket being a plus is nice, but a factor in their decision?
The most clueless whackjob percentage maybe, add in a few racists and/or misandrists who only voted for her, or maybe they should all be lumped together as more similar than otherwise?
Seriously, it's scary to think that just a fringe couple of percents of, let's face it, not exactly our best, deciding not to vote/vote Democrat because a black and/or woman wasn't on the ticket could have thrown everything to the Republicans.
So I won't. We're better than that!
