Three House Republicans Targeted For Jan 6 'Involvement'
Link to tweet
Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) called for ethics probes into Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz) and their "involvement" in the January 6 Capitol insurrection.
As the Washington Post reported days after the January attack, Reps. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) and John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) recounted that they both witnessed Boebert "with a 'large' group in a tunnel connected to the Capitol days before the attempted insurrection that left four rioters and one police officer dead."
"We saw Boebert taking a group of people for a tour sometime after the 3rd and before the 6th," said Cohen. "Now, whether these people were people that were involved in the insurrection or not, I do not know."

offenses prior to kicking them out with the 14th Amendment.
In the cases of Senators ... I can see an up side to convicting and imprisoning them and NOT kicking them out - if they are locked up they can't vote, but if they are not kicked out they cannot be replaced.
I'm sure that isn't accurate because it is just too easy, but it's a nice dream.

(32,639 posts)... the FBI has all cellphone transmissions (including texts) that went through the U.S. Capitol celltower that day. If one or more of the parties flipped, it's only further confirmation of what the Feds already know.
To my way of thinking, everyone who's been arrested so far has been required to surrender their cellphone, and from there it's a short connection. I doubt if any of them were smart enough to use burner phones that day. They needed their selfies!

(58,785 posts)in the WaPo the other day a statement suggesting the FBI had not found involvement by members. That isn't to say for sure it hasn't been or won't be.
But, although I firmly believe all three should be thrown out of congress, sanctioned, virtually whipped out of town, everything that can legally be done to them, we need to hold out the possibility that no evidence for criminal charges under current laws will be found.
Itm, there's always hope. They're traitors.

(58,785 posts)Self demonstrated. If we had the sort of authoritarian leadership they were willing to turn our nation over to, they might well already be executed. Once it was determined they had no more information to give.
Cosmocat
(14,564 posts)it would be so NOT America with the GOP to have the people who were in the thick of January 6th to be held accountable.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Accountability? The bare voting majority who protected our democracy this time will be able to hold some accountable who served themselves up to the justice system. Lack of integrity and commitment are not our problem.
Will we win the next time, though? Not only over 70 million voters out there voted for the worst Trump and his Republican lackeys would have done with their mandate of reelection, but another 80 million didn't bother to come up with a reason to vote for or against anything.
In a very real sense, a large majority of the people are okay with Republican corruption and destruction last fall and either hoping to install an authoritarian leader or shrugging it off. If they win, the Republicans get to demand accountability and start by arresting political opponents and journalists.
My sentiments exactly. People want to think we are a 50 / 50 country and we aren't. As you note, that 1 / 3 who don't bother to vote by their absence are saying they are OK with what the Rs are doing.

If she actually lead a group through for a reconnaissance mission. She needs to be charged with the fullest extent of the law, accessory to murder, insurrection, the whole 9 yards.

(4,575 posts)would the governor appoint someone to finish her term? Our governor is a Democrat.

(111,261 posts)A lot of states would have an interim appointment u8ntil a special election could be done.
Boebert is a space shot and a total gunloon but not quite in the same league as Brooks and Gosar. Those two have really got to go, even though their districts would likely elect other nasty Republicans.
House vacancies must be filled by special elections. The seat would remain empty until the governor calls a special election to fill it.

(36,055 posts)from wikipedia:
During the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 Biggs was ushered to a secure location when the House Chamber was cleared and all members of the House were taken to a safe location. A video of Biggs later surfaced in which he refused to wear a mask in violation of House rules.[23][24]
On January 12, 2021, Biggs called on fellow GOP Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) to resign from her leadership position within the Republican Caucus, after she voted in favor of Donald Trump's second impeachment.[25]
In the aftermath of the events on January 6, Biggs' brothers William and Daniel wrote a letter to the editor of the Arizona Republic demanding their brother's removal from office. They wrote that Biggs is "at least partially to blame" for the Capitol storming.

Also, we try people based on laws, not Websters dictionary so there is no treason to try. Conspiracy maybe. The Rosenbergs were the last to win a dirt-nap prize on that charge I believe and no hanging. Still dont understand anyones bloodlust for hanging and why its become such a common wish. Repellant.
