I tested negative but expect that to change when i go back in a couple of days.
Any prayers, vibes, wishes are gratefully accepted.
We've been as careful as possible since none of us can work from home.
And we all have vaccine appointments too, just need some supply.
I am so stressed out.

I understand why you are stressed. A friend of mine and her daughter and son had to quarantine downstairs while her husband recovered upstairs. Everyone ended up healthy and whole. I wish the same for you and your family.

From Rachel Maddow show 2-17-2021. Its an infusion, not an injection or pill. It works. We all thought it was only for Trump and his cronies, but as it happens, 70% of the supply is going unused.
If your doc is unaware, do some research yourself.
Go to combatcovid.hhs.gov
for sites that have it I assume they can ship to a hospital or clinic if one is not close.
Her show that evening kind of knocked my socks off, and I made sure to write this info down.
Best of luck to you all. Fingers crossed.

(17,387 posts)monoclonal antibodies make a huge difference. My local hospital is set up to deliver them as outpatient treatment for older patients (not sure age clip). I know someone whose elderly patients got the treatment and their cases were milder than their younger daughter.

Treat the symptoms and if possible get an oximeter. It is a great tool to check on your respiratory condition.

(756 posts)I'm not a doctor but I'll give you some hints. The inventor of the drug got the Nobel prize for Medicine because of this drug. 3.7 Billion people, that's Billion with a B. , have taken this safe drug. Japan's top Doctor likes it for covid. NIH (USA) now says it is neutral about it for covid. A province of 200million in N. India is giving it a go. South Africa, Zimbabwe, Perth Australia. Paraguay it is being used. Egypt just finished a trial (good results) Meta analysis of trials data? All good. Google trial site news. Rural Peru stopped covid with it, Lima didn't have it and didn't avoid covid. In Belgium public health doctor says it could end the plague in six weeks. Bill & Malinda are funding more studies of it for covid treatment AND prevention.
Make an informed decision with your doctor. Covid can be prevented, nipped in the bud, and bring you back from deaths door. Then get the vaccine.

(1,856 posts)So sorry you and your family are going through this.
Someone on this thread mentioned supplements. Here is a link that discusses several supplements that are recommended for both reducing covid symptoms, and boosting your immune system. They are easy enough to pick up or order and may be helpful, even if you get monoclonal antibodies.
https://www.uspharmacist.com/article/common-supplements-might-reduce-covid-severity
I'm a big advocate for vitamin D. Many people do not have enough, or have low normal levels. Empirical studies in several countries have shown those with lower levels face more severe complications and chance of mortality from covid.
I hope your family recovers quickly and without problems. Relax and stay positive. Most people do recover without incident, and many have had the virus with no symptoms. And they've made tremendous progress in treatment over the past year.

(13,580 posts)For prophylaxis, the medical school recommends vitamin C (500 mg) and quercetin (250 mg-500 mg twice a day) with zinc (75 mg-100 mg per day), melatonin (0.3 mg-2 mg) each night, and vitamin D3 (1,000-4,000 IU per day). Famotidine (20 mg-40 mg per day) may be added to the mix. For patients with mild symptoms, EVMS recommends the same combination, with optional additions of ivermectin (150 ug-200 ug per kg as a single dose), and one low-dose or regular aspirin per da

(9,543 posts)and neither did my husband, though we're in the same house.
We put a HEPA air filter in the bedroom and bathroom our son was using, which I think helped, and wore masks at home except when sleeping, eating, or working at my desk which is in a separate part of the house. Also I was guzzling anti-inflammatory drinks with ginger, turmeric, etc. as well as Vitamin C, zinc, etc -- everything I could think of to boost immunities.
A pulse oximeter (fingertip oxygen measure) is helpful to keep tabs on oxygen levels since low oxygen is a sign that it's time to get to a hospital but I hope that won't be needed.
COVID is scary but do remember that the vast majority of those who catch it will recover and many especially young people have only minimal symptoms. My son had only a low-grade fever and cough for about two days.

(5,164 posts)Take vitamin D, melatonin, vitamin C and lysine, z pack if you have symptoms. I hope you all recover asap and you don't have it. When I had it the first time no one caught it from me.
My father is at home recovering from it, he was in hospital for 2 weeks and then rehab for 1.5 weeks. They did absolutely nothing for the covid while he was there! Although I asked multiple times etc. One doc told me there is nothing to be done it is a virus! At first they said he either didn't have it or was asymptomatic but he kept testing positive. He finally had his first neg test done at home 38 days after the first positive test. He was exposed to it at the same ER the week before when he went in for a popped hernia.
Do not expect to get any special treatments unless your doc is a miracle worker. He did not have severe lung involvement but had other severe things going on. At one point his bp dropped and then O2 dropped to low 90s, they had him on oxygen for 24 hrs- O2 went to 100% on oxygen. He had high bp, some sort of heart involvement and many other issues. The first sign was overflow incontinence and possible uti- please be aware everyone, many people are presenting with only symptoms of uti but have covid and some develop severe overflow incontinence, which has not resolved, because the bladder is another area of the body that has cytokine inflammation from covid. Covid can be transmitted through urine as well.
I am sure I was getting it again from him, but my test was negative. It was going into my lungs again(had double covid pneumonia in April), I took zpack again. I was told I could get monoclonal antibodies but was not offered anything with a negative test and had to fight to get a z pack. Later my heart doc said zpack would help, which I already knew, because it has anti- inflammatory effects, I took it last time as well.
I had my first pfizer shot last week, I get the second in about 2 more weeks.

(23,242 posts)If neither is diabetic, they will probably not get too sick. One thing I learned from my nurse friend when I had it is the absolute importance of moving around and drinking at least 60 oz a day (not including coffee/tea/alcohol because those are diuretics). Check their oxygen frequently, especially if they feel any dizziness, shortness of breath or have difficulty breathing. Pulse oximeters aren't that expensive and are vital for this. If oxygen level goes below 90 and doesn't bounce right back in a few minutes, go to the hospital. Mine kept going down to 88, but it would bounce up within a couple of minutes and be back to good within a few more. Also, semi-liquid foods help add liquids, like jello, pudding, popsicles. Good luck.
That's exactly how it happened with us. Husband and son tested positive one week while I was negative and the next week I was positive too. They had regular flu-like symptoms, son better in 4-5 days, husband better in 7. I got the lung and heart issues and it took several weeks to get back to normal but no hospitalization was required.

(825 posts)I was watching MSNBC last week and the doctor speaking (I forget who it was) was talking about how monoclonal antibodies really work to prevent Covid from getting worse and that he thinks more people should be treated with them. He gave this website:
CombatCOVID.hhs.gov
And this is the one to see if you qualify for treatment:
https://combatcovid.hhs.gov/i-have-covid-19/how-do-i-know-if-im-high-risk
Right now, it's mainly for people who are high risk, but you might check the link to see if you or any family members quality. They also have another link to click on that page for clinical trials for people that don't qualify as high risk.
Best of luck to you and your family. My prayers are with you.
