The mayor of a West Texas town said Tuesday that he had already resigned after he was widely condemned for writing on Facebook that people suffering in the cold without power shouldnt look to their local governments for help.
Tim Boyd, who was mayor of Colorado City, made his original, typo-ridden post Tuesday morning, writing that no one owes you are your family anything; nor is it the local governments responsibility to support you during trying times like this!
The City and County, along with power providers or any other service owes you NOTHING!
Boyd continued at length, saying that he was sick and tired of people looking for handouts and that the current situation is sadly a product of a socialist government.
Only the strong will survive and the weak will parish, he wrote.
The post is no longer available, but numerous screenshots show it and a follow-up post he made several hours later in which he said he stood by the sentiments in his first missive but would have either kept his mouth shut or phrased his message better if he could do things over.
I would never want to hurt the elderly or anyone that is in true need of help to be left to fend for themselves, Boyd said. I was only making the statement that those folks that are too lazy to get up and fend for themselves but are capable should not be dealt a handout.

(15,267 posts)...to make sure no one got anything helpful for the public done. Because that would be socialism.
Oh, and he might have wanted to be mayor for the grifting opportunities too.
But damn, if people gonna start beggin' for help, and givin' ya all this "Please do something!" pressure, well, who needs that shit?

(823 posts)This is how they think and what they believe, he just said it out loud. Imagine being so stupid as to tell the people who pay taxes to support the salaries and infrastructure of the city government that you "owe them nothing." Sorry, did I say stupid, I meant Republican. They only see what others get, not what they get because what they get is disserved, what others get is a handout. I have lived in Texas for the last 30 years and this attitude is rampant among white republicans all over the state. White folks produce everything, others only take. I will be leaving the state soon and am thankful to be leaving this bullshit behind. It's a beatdown that has simply worn me out.

(22,166 posts)I don't agree with you one bit. If you said it, it means that you really felt this way. If you could have gotten away w/ it, you would have not aided any of those who truly needed help in these dire times, that politics needed to be gotten out of the way and help rendered, without any interference. Moron. You're gone now, never will (and shouldn't be either) serve the public anymore.
