THREAD: Some horrors are described in a court filing against alleged US Capitol insurrectionist Michael Lopatic of Lancaster, PA. He's accused of "pummeling" a DC police officer as that officer attempted to save a wounded colleague
Image
He allegedly grabbed the officer by the head and threw uppercut punches
Image
Then... amid the savage fight.... he allegedly stole the officer's body-work camera. Showing "the foresight to traverse an angry mob to take what would have been a crucial piece of evidence in bringing those who attacked officers... to justice"
In a request to a federal judge to keep Lopatic in custody, the US Justice Dept showed this November 4th Facebook post allegedly made by Lopatic ===>
Image
Citing Lopatic's "wish to do harm to government officials" and "the fact that he has access to firearms".... the feds sought court order to keep Lopatic detained pending future hearings. Case is being transferred to DC. No response yet to my inquiries to his defense lawyer

(47,509 posts)Donald Trump is just a convenient excuse to be violent. There are people out there who just want to play out their violent fantasies. He is probably the kind of guy in a bar who would start a fight because someone looked at him "funny". Hey and then the president of the United States invites him to DC to beat the crap out of people that he already hates? "Whoa, count me in!"
I'd wager this isn't his first arrest for assault, but hopefully his last.

(17,931 posts)Vile crap these people have been nursing most of their miserable lives. Personally, I think they're beyond reform.
PatSeg
(47,509 posts)if you've been around long enough, you have repeatedly seen such behavior in some people. They don't necessarily do bad things for a particular reason, they look for a reason to do bad things. In Trump, they found the perfect leader, who not only condones their behavior, but actually encourages it and tells them they are right to be angry. Of course, if that leader is also president, that is the ultimate permission.
paleotn
(17,931 posts)That's why so many of them are trying desperately to defend themselves with "the president told us to do it!!!" Really?! They actually thought they could get away with something this vile?

(51,284 posts)The haircut had to mean something, Suzie Holubek recalled thinking.
Before her neighbor Michael Lopatic went to Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, he had shaggy, shoulder-length hair and a scraggly beard.
But when Holubek saw him across the street on Haskell Drive in Manheim Township a couple days after the attack on the U.S. Capitol, Lopatics hair was short and beard neatly trimmed.
She said she thought to herself: He knows. He did something and they're looking for him.
Holubek said she recalled seeing Lopatic removing pro-Trump signs and an anti-abortion sign from his yard a couple days after the Capitol attack. Later, he removed what she said were some of the more offensive bumper stickers from his pickup truck.
She knew he had gone to Washington. He had posted he was going on his Facebook page, which she sometimes looked at.
So it wasnt exactly a surprise when authorities rolled up in black SUVs around 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 3, blocked off the street and arrested the 57-year-old former enlisted Marine.
