General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCome on DU. We are better than this.
Words matter and we are so much better than this. The C word and B and N word are all unacceptable. Lady G is unacceptable. Derogatory names for any group of people is in fact unacceptable. I won't mention them, you all know what I am talking about.
As I said, we are better than this.
Points can be made without the slurs.

(21,132 posts)There are two levels of it, but it is here. By two levels, I mean that there are some that reacted to the alleged news of what prostitutes called him. The second level is trying to use it as a pejorative for the orientation.
In the end both are wrong. When this all came out I posted a parody of Paul McCartney's "Sally G" to "Lady G." I am sure you can find it i you search. It wasn't meant as an anti-homosexual post, but I can see now how it might be conceived as such.
Ultimately, here the thing. we have plenty of Lindsey Graham criticism available to not ever worry about patrolling the "Lady G" waters.

(14,912 posts)have seen the N word. (been here a little bit more than 8 months)
Really, the N word ?!! I'd think people here would either have the decency, or the smarts not to use such language.
I'm trying to lessen my occasional use of the B word in general - although otoh, I like it sometimes as a badge of honor (if directed at me) for being a pretty smart, assertive woman.
And I never use the C word.

(6,688 posts)I do regularly insult an entire group of elected and leadership Republicans by calling them skunks. I have not been called out by skunks yet for using them as a slur that means Mitch, McCarthy, and pals stink to high heavens.

Hey...years ago I was on the Hillary thread when she was called a C word. It was live. I saw it happened and yes, I alerted. I can't tell you how much that hurt. Just like it would hurt any group to see it happen before them.

(2,430 posts)...we shouldn't sully the reputations of LGTBQ individuals by invoking Graham's name. But I think it's fair to call him a hypocrite whose fear of being outed is far greater than his loyalty to his nation. And, perhaps more important, I really don't think Graham is afraid of being outed for his sexual identity as much as he's perhaps afraid of being outed for sexual behaviors that are shameful or illegal. The culture has come a long way in the last few decades on non-heterosexual identity, but not for sexual perversions. As much as the right-wing identifies with Qanon and as frequently as they project, one has to wonder.

(6,011 posts)Like you brought up, he may be afraid of some serious kink being exposed,
but I'd imagine that at this point in his life, if he's just gay, he's got to be seeing things as "it is what it is".
Does he do well in getting votes in SC? I've never paid attention. Would he lose votes if he actually is gay, and came out?

(166 posts)Well, I for one will apologize for my angry slip of calling Lindsey G , Lady G. I was angry as hell at the time because I am tired of his bullshit. I'm tired of his sucking up to the Devil, and yes I am leaving THAT comment in. tRump IS the devil. I DO know that no one should be disparaged for their sexual preference. That was wrong...

This is the only way to explain his turn around about his respect / buddy buddy situation with trDump. Where as Lindsey couldn't stand the ground trDump walked on not too long ago.
The transition is highly questionable.

(2,412 posts)Yes'm I have noticed that Lindsey Graham has been called cute names here referring to his possible homosexuality. And I thought that was beneath us. Also several comments about Melanie Trump's profession before marrying Trump. While I may loathe these people I still want a modicum of respect for others on this site. Things have gotten really ugly in politics lately and we do not need to be caught up in it.

It has nothing to do with insinuating he is trans or a woman. Linguistically & sociologically it's closer to when some gays, particularly those with ties to the drag community, would call each other "girl" or "girlfriend".

(34,075 posts)give you permission to use it as an insult in solidarity with them?
Aside from which, you have now suggested it is both an insult to call out his hypocrisy AND a term of endearment.
Those are two very different things - and it is being used against Graham as an insult.
Ms. Toad
(34,075 posts)The term is homophobic/transphobic/sexist.
Misgendering someone, using a name they have not agreed to be called, or using being female as an insult has no place on DU. Period. There are plenty of LGBT people on DU who have been telling you very clearly and repeatedly that using our lives as an insult is not, in any way, shape, or form in solidarity with us. It is offensive.

And it's not that hard to just not say something that people have told me offends them - it's much easier than arguing with them about whether their right to not feel attacked and demeaned is more important than my entitlement to be an asshole.
