The drive into Houston was the longest part of the process. The City of Houston is better organized. The process four weeks ago took over three hours.

Congratulations to you!

(10,669 posts)My county set up a vaccination center in an 80,000 sq.ft. Sears store last week. It was amazing. It was better than the small county health department where I had gotten the 1st vaccination. The supervisor who was observing me after my vaccination said they were going to vaccinate 1,000 people a day with a goal of vaccinating 3,000 per day.

(1,531 posts)It didn't hurt. My shoulder is sore today, but it had. I've been tired, but in a pleasant restful way.

(5,164 posts)In NY. There are no appointments available... lots of corruption here and very few vaccines.

(10,156 posts)My relatives in Erie county are having problems getting appointments, even though they're over 65 - vaccine availability seems spotty in the state.

(5,164 posts)I know there is tons of corruption here. An ER worker told me people were giving their ids to friends and family etc.We live in crookhaven. Also the fact that young healthy people were given vaccines ahead of the elderly and high risk is wrong unless they are exposed hcw.

(5,164 posts)Instead of the website, they said phone lines are overloaded call back later. Called one of my docs, they said they will let us know when they have vaccines available and emailed me a letter stating my medical conditions etc. The website still says no appointments available at the two centers near me.

(5,164 posts)Waited on hold for 30-40 minutes and I have an appointment for my first shot on Wednesday. I am nervous now. It took forever answering tons of questions. I am just printing out the certificate and online vaccination form proof now. My doc emailed a letter stating I am under his care for the health condition.
My brother had less luck, he called 2-3 hours later and they said there were no appointments left. But they told him to call back for cancellations. I wonder if they will tell me if there are any that day and if he can go later or if he has to fill out all the forms and get the certificate first.

(42,770 posts)Possible... But it is each state that is administering the actual distribution. Some efficiently, some not.

(5,164 posts)will improve asap and many more will be vaccinated. I had my first shot Wednesday and I am reacting but not severely, but I had really bad back pain the day before and it continues so it is hard to say, since I already had that, if the vaccine is making it worse and my arm is pretty sore. I feel achy, headache and feverish, but no actual fever. I am wondering if shot # 2 will be worse. I also had a feeling of flushing and some palpitations after the shot but they passed rapidly. I am going to be resting as much as possible for a few days. I had the pfizer vaccine.

(145,554 posts)The CDC has a website that checks on your symptoms once a week. Today I was asked if I had my second shot.

(6,625 posts)I'm still feeling a bit crappy, but much better than yesterday.
I lucked out, really. My primary care clinic called me the day after I registered for eligibility notification from my county. It's a 20-minute drive from my house. They had me in for my first dose within a week, and now I just had the second.
I'm over 65 and have an autoimmune disorder, so that may have helped move me up the list.

(7,286 posts)I had my first Moderna early last week. No side effects whatsoever, not even pain in my arm. A very slight ache the next day, but barely noticeable.
My second comes up on March 9th. I hear stories about the second vaccinations (no particular brand) of coming down with various effects... Yet, I worry about side effects with the second shot. And I'm curious why the second shot is often regarded as the one people experience side effects like the chills, fever, nausea, aches and pains etc.

(44,974 posts)When you get second shot, immune system recognizes a spike protein as an invader, and kicks in, producing side effects.

(19,567 posts)I'm only on my first shot, (seamless 16 minute total drive through in Williamson County. Pros one and all!), but my friends in the medical field warned the second can be rough. Take care and stay warm. Keep us posted as to how you do, ok?
Here, where I am, in central Texas we currently have 3.5 inches of snow, and it's still falling heavily. It's probably more than that by now but I'm not going back out in this to stick a ruler in the driveway after dark. Under that is an inch of ice from Thursday of last week. Grocery stores are empty, and there's no deliveries. No forecasted thaw for us until Friday. That's 8 days of below freezing here. Currently it's 10.2 degrees. There's no way our infrastructure will handle this. Plumbing code doesn't even address this mess. It's going to be ugly when it all ends.
I hope you're going to fare better there. You're getting a lesser version, but still unprecedented cold. Be safe and warm. ❤️

(5,164 posts)but I have that anyway so it is hard to say if it is from the vaccine. I also had severe back pain the night before and had to take a pain pill otherwise I would not have been able to get there. My arm is pretty sore and I feel achy, feverish and a slight headache, so it is working.
