Sasse statement: Every American needs to understand what the Department of Justice has just made public: Investigators have strong evidence to suggest that some of the rioters who stormed the United States Capitol planned to kidnap and possibly assassinate the Vice President.

(34,661 posts)was going on with Stimulus Payments. Found our Ricketts has a hand in the Debit Cards that are and were sent to people. Then found the Ricketts were major donors to Sasse.
Ricketts and another Billionaire from South Dakota set up a Industrial Bank just to handle these Debit Cards. Five dollar charge for each transaction? What the F is that all about. Just a ton of Political Patronage.
stopdiggin
(11,381 posts)(also look into the "student loan" scam) I was just questioning the closeness of ties. And how much a "mouthpiece" the senator was for the Ricketts' "brand." My impression -- Sasse is positioning himself as the "anti-" Trump/Cruz/Hawley Republican.
(but, like I said -- I can barely keep track of the people I'm actually interested in!)

(34,661 posts)Hawley and Cruz as well as Pence. Been amazed at the Sheeple of Nebraska and South Dakota are so blind to vote to keep the likes of Sasse and Noem in office. Collective IQ = 0 ?

I kind of want to see him put on that spot,
May be why trump claims he will not resign.
His only out is to try that self Pardon, that should bomb. And if he Pardons all the terrorists, including congress members, that will define GOP forever.
Not sure Mega donors will want that stain on their businesses.

(3,282 posts)I mean, they were chanting "Hang Mike Pence." I don't think their intentions were all that hidden.
Of course some of the groups might have planned it more in depth and maybe even had better capabilities to do that.
Again, usually anyone involved in a felony can be charged for any act committed during the felony. This includes things like robbing a bank and having a cop shoot your partner. You are guilty of murder in their death. If your partner shoot a cop, you are guilty of that as well.
I don't see why they can't charge anyone in the building with this as well.

(1,345 posts)sounds to me like his coming excuse for acquitting Trump again:
Which Republicans Had the Worst Excuses for Ending the Impeachment Trial With No Witnesses?
2. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska
Sasse fashioned his career in the Senate, as Slates Ben Mathis-Lilley described it, as a performatively deep thinker, an advocate of public decency. What does the man who wrote a book titled The Vanishing American Adult think of Trumps conduct in the Ukraine affair and whether or not witnesses should be called in his Senate trial? Let me be clear; Lamar speaks for lots and lots of us, Sasse told CNNs Manu Raju, doing the presumably adult thing of deferring his reasoning for the most important decision of his public life to someone else. Even there, the straight-talking champion of integrity wouldnt take the risk of repeating those words with his own mouth. I asked if he believes then that Trump acted inappropriately, Raju reported. Sasse didnt answer.

(6,570 posts)I get why we wanted him gone immediately. For one thing, we could have prevented Trump from having his Saturday meeting. But, between the two options, I'd rather have a shot at convicting him in the Senate.
Is it possible that Pence got even with Trump by allowing him to be impeached instead?

(9,771 posts)going on with the impeachment trial after his term is over. And Rs are grumbling & whining about "Next Dems will impeach George Washington!" And I'll be surprised if they don't try to impeach Obama as retribution.
I've been surprised over the past 4 years to find that even the experts disagree about many of the rules, so I don't feel quite as bad about my confusion over these sorts of matters.
