Curious question here for the lawyers here.

If rump self pardons, what time frame are we looking at? Would this go immediately go to the SC? Or start at lower court and work it's way up to the SC? THEN how long would the SC sit on it? (could this take 6 months to a year?

The most likely scenario would be that following an investigation, evidence of Trump's crimes are presented to a grand jury, which issues an indictment. Trump would then go to court in an attempt to quash the indictment, and if he fails, he would appeal. If he succeeds, the government would appeal. The decision would would work its way through a circuit court of appeals and finally presented to the Supreme Court on a petition for a writ of certioriari, which the court would certainly grant, since a self-pardon has never happened before. The process could take many months.

would allow a self pardon. Not one legal expert agrees. All say its 9-0 decision against it. Katayal, Tribe, Ginsburg, etc.... even Barr told Trump it wouldn't stand.

that a self-pardon would be bait for federal prosecutors.

Trump: "I'm pardoning myself."

Federal Prosecutor: "Hold my beer."
