Chris Christie Says Trump Should Be Impeached: If Inciting an Insurrectionist Mob Isnt Impeachable, I Dont Know What Is
By Ken MeyerJan 10th, 2021, 11:46 am
Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie said there are grounds to impeach President Donald Trump for inciting his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol.
Speaking with George Stephanopoulos on the panel discussion for ABCs This Weeks, Christie was asked if Republicans would be hard pressed to oppose the new push by Democrats to have Trump removed from office. Christie agreed that Trumps words his supporters were an incitement to riot that resulted in loss of life, so Stephanopoulos asked if he thought Trump committed an impeachable offense.
Oh sure, yeah, Christie said. If I think its an impeachable offense, thats exactly what I would do If inciting to insurrection isnt, then I dont know what it is.
Christie went on by accusing Democrats of cheapening impeachment with their previous attempt to remove Trump over the Ukraine scandal, but Trumps incitement fits the definition of impeachable conduct. He also said other Republicans have had enough of Trump, and that it was a national disgrace the White Houses flag wasnt at half-staff in honor of Brian Sicknick, the Capitol Hill police officer who was killed in the riots.

Where was your call for impeachment conviction and removal then Mr. Christie?

(13,197 posts)The Ukraine scandal was also very clearly grounds for impeachment, of course. This is just a dirty, conniving attempt to use Trump's treasonous deeds in a rhetorically sneaky, opposite-world argument that the GOP Senators who didn't vote to convict didn't fail their duty to the country.
It's a marvelous piece of rhetorical poison. Are we now going to accept Trump's incitement to insurrection (which was the fault of GOP Senators except Romney) as a retroactive defense of the Republicans who enabled it? I don't think so. Nice try, Christie, you piece of shit.
