I am tired of the 'heal and reconcile' message

This message always seems to be used when conservative thought loses either an election or war. The first time it happened was the Civil War (probably happened before then, but that’s the most stark example)...and has happened several times after (the last time was after the 2006 and 2008 elections )...Their people aren’t held accountable or suffer any consequences, we just try to move on (and our side goes along with it) ...But what really happens is they regroup and get worse and more emboldened and eventually get power again. I hope we don’t make the same mistakes this time. It seems like Pelosi and the Democratic House gets it.

take the oath of office before people in his own party start criticizing him. Biden can fight and will fight if need be. But he is sensible enough to know that healing somehow must take place. That is a noble enough cause to seriously attempt it. Think about what we have been through the last four years and realize that Joe Biden saved our democracy by running and winning.

without justice. Justice requires that these terrorists, both inside and outside of government, must be held accountable. Obama should have held GW Bush and and co accountable for their crimes and the Dems should do the same now.

Clyburn just said on Tapper they may wait 100 days to send the impeachment bill to the Sebate, giving Biden his 100 days to get things done. Sounds like a good plan to me.

But you are right.

Until those from the top on down to the more involved ones looking at you oathkeepers and other organized members of the insurrection, those hunting the halls for political figures. You need to be held to account with the harshest penalties possible.

The unruly mob? Loss of voting rights, loss of job probation after your prison sentence might be the least you can expect.

Healing will not happen with FOX news and other media outlets allowed to continue as before.

I will do what I can in my community to try to make this a better place. I need to replace the bile in my throat whenever it rises listening to those who defend this administration and these insurgents.

Around complaining, demanding Biden fix things.

BTW, Romney was harassed in the Airport too. You do not here him going on Hannity.

My local paper came out against Jordan, Chabot and Warren for helping incite.

It is another lie to change the message to “it’s the Democrats fault if they don’t want unity.” We will not follow their deviant requests. Stand firm for justice based on facts.

This wasn't a riot. This was a conspiracy to take over the US Govt and they were willing to use whatever force necessary to take out elected officials all the way up to the VP.

Has been given many times before. Obama opened his hands n got fists in return. Biden is calling for unity n who on the other side is standing with him. The videos of these people storming the Capital show the hate n lust for harm in their faces and actions. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

This is one of those "when the going gets tough the tough get going" situations. Good news for those who aren't is that they can just watch sitcoms and perfect their smoked ribs until next election.

Be there, though. I don't think anyone would like the alternative of trumpist or Pub police state, even though the ridiculous thought of "heal and reconcile" would never bother us there.

Run down to your local woman's shelter and ask around about how sincere that promise is.

We can't heal until we surgically remove the cancer from our government and society. The cancer is rampant in the Repub party.

Cure first, then we can heal.

When one side requires you to embrace their lies in order to start.

I for one, won’t do it. In fact I may lay out the next unfortunate who tries to aggressively accost me about how trumps getting such a raw deal.

How’s that for reconciliation, y’all quesadilla eatin traitors.

21. The heal and reconcile message?
Sun Jan 10, 2021, 05:34 PM

Is the cart before the horse.

First needed is:

We are deeply, deeply sorry. We really fucked up. We will censure and expel all members who had a hand in this and we will openly, publicly decry and condemn Donald Trump's incitement of this attempted coup.

Instead what we're hearing are excuses or more blatant lies. The involvement of Antifa, for instance. Answer: there is not a whit of evidence regarding Antifa involvement.

Or bothersiderism: what about the BLM riots? Answer: What riots? You mean the violence that Trump incited with his jackboot officers?

Or minimizing the assault: It had no chance of succeeding. It was disorganized and leaderless. It's wrong to even label this an insurrection.

Answer: If you plan a murder and botch it, you're still guilty of attempted murder. The intent and location was clear: A violent strike at the heart of our government with the intention of overturning a fair election.

But, but Free Speech, my First Amendment Rights. Answer: Rights carry responsibility. A 'right' is not license to do or say anything you damn well please. Shouting fire in a crowded theater anyone? Or perhaps we should review the horror in Rwanda, the way radio announcements were used to embroil and inflame the country into a self-inflicted genocide. Or go back further. History is replete with grotesque misuses of speech and ugly propaganda.

Yes, healing and reconciliation are necessary. But not until the Republican Party comes clean, period.

Sun Jan 10, 2021, 05:37 PM

From the House: unanimous vote for impeachment. If a congressperson cannot vote for impeachment, then resign.
From the Senate: a call to immediately resume session and then a unanimous vote to convict.

Members from both houses should give speeches about how the election was fair and while the election process can be improved, there are no cases from any state where they think the results of the election are disputed.

From "friends and family": a recognition that they have been brainwashed over the past 4 years by Trump and right wing media and have become to believe the most outlandish lies. They will promise to their best to never be misled by a dangerous demagogue again.

I'm all for forgiveness but that only comes when people admit to their mistakes and sincerely asking for that forgiveness.

Short of that, the "heal and reconcile" message is just another version of "fine people on both sides"
