Dayam. I mean, that's some concentrated stupidity right there.
That said, I loved the Beach Boys millions of years ago; saw them in concert. Even though Mike Love has gone around the twist from Hell, I'd still hate to see Covid get him.

(9,849 posts)Love, Al Jardine and all three Wilsons. Brian had briefly returned to touring. Ive seen Loves first incarnation when he still had Jardine with him. It was rather weak sauce. I wouldnt walk across the street to see Love alone.

(1,207 posts)I would stop to help Mike Love if he had a flat tire, but no- I have no interest in seeing him dance in front of a "cover band" that has nothing to do with the original Beach Boys.

(14,150 posts)the creative force behind the original band.
Brian Wilson and Al Jardine both founding members of the legendary Californian pop group have been told their involvement in the bands touring commitments will cease after this week.
David Marks, who originally joined the band as a replacement for Jardine in 1962, is also to be relieved of his touring duties.
Singer Mike Love, who owns the rights the bands name following a series of legal battles, released a statement which said:
The post-50th anniversary configuration will not include Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and David Marks. The 50th Reunion Tour was designed to be a set tour with a beginning and an end to mark a special 50-year milestone for the band. -[Telegraph]
Brutal, Mike. Just brutal. The current version of The Beach Boys, before Love waves adios to the lot of them, has another two shows left on the calendar and both in London: 9/27 at Royal Albert Hall and 9/28 at Wembley Arena. Those will surely be a lot of fun and free of tension. [TELEGRAPH]

While recently working on my family genealogy I discovered Al Jardine is my 3rd cousin. Who knew?

(6,352 posts)Like I said before, if Mike Love always had complete creative control over the Beach Boys, they wouldn't have had a hit beyond Fun, Fun, Fun and the British Invasion would have swept them into oblivion. Even Murray Wilson wouldn't have allowed that to happen.

(34,822 posts)Former Beach Boys Brian Wilson and Al Jardine disbanded the group, rather than perform as The Beach Boys for Chump's entertainment. Whatever Love is calling this new band, they aren't The Beach Boys.

(12,325 posts)I love the Beach Boys. When did Mike Love turn into a dick? Was it when he spoke in favor of censoring music in the 80's during the PMRC nonsense or was before that?

He was a Reaganite, loved 43, and personally he's always been an ass.
I'm a Beach Boys detractor, but he has always just been the appendix of the band. Replaceable by a million guys with a singing voice.

(12,325 posts)I didn't realize he was a RWNJ.
I saw the movie about the group many years ago. When it was revealed that Brian had unwittingly signed away the groups legacy Mike responded by shouting at and hitting him. I thought that part exaggerated for drama purposes but he probably did exactly that. I could see why he was pissed but it was obvious that Brian was having problems mentally and wasn't really responsible for what happened.

(18,912 posts)This video isn't the best representation of them playing together, just one I grabbed quickly, but in absence of the impossible...all three Wilson brothers on stage...he did pretty well with them. He's also had Al Jardine in his band on somewhat of a regular basis. It's light years ahead of the Mike Love cover band.
