If McConnell won't allow vote on $2000 checks, Bernie will block the defense spending bill, forcing the senate to stay in session.

(67,782 posts)....consideration of the $2000 bill via unanimous consent ahead of the Defense bill. You could see McConnell seething.
Schumer did a great job this morning (other than getting a couple of pages mixed up, I felt bad for him there). He's clearly learning from Speaker Pelosi.

(5,969 posts)Another populist who joins the Dem party every 4 years to trash it and creates resentment from within isn't needed.
There are probably many things I agree with him but his tactic to basically win the primary by running against the party is too toxic.

They should all be Bernies.

If Bernie had never run for President I would consider him one of the best Senators but his need to brand himself as better than Democrats has hurt our solidarity.
Having said that this filibuster is brilliant and I admire him for it.

Party solidarity should not trump rebuke of bad policy.
I'm really thankful that he is taking this stand with the filibuster. I agree completely - it is admirable.

(9,673 posts)bernie and the entire dem coalition are fighting for two grand checks for Americans' that really need them
leader Pelosi has gotten a great simple stand alone bill passed and bernie is working within the democratic coalition to get it a vote
if mcconnell will not give it a vote it is going to hurt those repub senators in georgia which might be even better than the 2 grand
now is our chance to give biden an honest chance at being able to govern
bernie is just fighting for an idea senator harris introduced months ago
stronger together

Because he doesnt pledge fealty to the Democratic Party and would rather take, support or oppose positions based on his reasoning and personal experience, he gets judged harshly for his imperfections. ... Overall, while he may be a pain in the arise from the Party perspective sometimes, far more often than not he says and does what needs to be said and done.

(42,023 posts)Progressives are important and carry the weight of the people. Working for those goals as a leader and marshal of those energies is a great job for Bernie. I appreciate that. But Im much more in favor of Joes efforts at selecting a broad array of people who can make the case, do the job and move things forward in a way that stops reactionary responses.

(9,673 posts)this is senate work to be done while president elect biden is getting his admin in order
heck vp elect harris originally sponsored the bill with the 2 grand idea, no one is against either if them
ole moscow mitch is in a corner, trump said he wants people to have 2 grand, leader pelosi quickly got the 2 grand bill passed with bi partisian support, now our democratic coalition in the senate (which includes bernie) is trying to get us a vote
if mitch won't let the senate vote on pelosi's well crafted stand alone bill they are going to look baddddddddddd in georgia

(22,919 posts)Bernie isn't perfect and he isn't the only role model for the type of elected officials that we need more of. We need propagandists, we need negotiators, we need consensus builders, we need movement builders, we need realists, we need idealists, we need Party builders, and we need those who don't go along just to get along, Mostly though we need more leaders who are not beholden to Big Money and status quo corporate interests, and instead defend the interests of average Americans who must struggle to get by. Bernie is one of those, but he isn't the only one who qualifies. Bernie isn't always right when it comes to policies, but far more often then not he is. So, yeah, I agree with the OP.
