I really really hate anti-maskers!

Because my barely employable son that lives with us, works at a fast food restaurant where the GM never wears her mask right and tolerates the staff not wearing masks at all, he got Covid. Worse, it was a week before she told Travis that the person he'd worked next to had been off the entire week with that crud. So, he'd already had it a week before he got tested and was positive and 5 days later I started having symptoms and then tested positive on Sunday.

Son is better now, but I'm not great. I have a constant headache and just feel so weak and dizzy. I have some coughing, but not that much. The worst part is Christmas! There are several people I always find presents for by shopping around, well that's been cut off now. Also our house is probably infected too so probably not a good idea to have my sister and her boyfriend over as planned. They are both high risk. Once I feel better I will sanitize this whole place, but who knows if that will occur in time? I hope so, I don't hurt nearly as badly as I did before, but my lungs still feel tight.

Well wishes or prayers would be appreciated. This virus is so weird, even though I'm not that sick, I am 68 years old and don't have great lungs so am still worried.

Knowingly exposing workers to life-threatening hazards in the workplace is squarely within OSHA's jurisdiction.

Here's a relevant article:

Get Right with OSHA on COVID-19 or Get Fined

"The current COVID-19 pandemic has presented new challenges to OSHA for reviewing how employers are protecting their employees. As of October 2, 2020, OSHA had imposed over $475,000 in fines against establishments that had violated OSHA’s regulations related to coronavirus."

Thu Dec 17, 2020, 01:14 PM

Republicans want to eliminate worker safety regulations because they're a burden on businesses, & we all know the GOP works for rich folks & corporations.

The point everyone seems to be missing is that OSHA's COVID enforcement is based on specific requirements of workplace safety laws. Those requirements apply to a LOT of other workplace hazards beyond COVID, & there are currently NO exceptions. If Republicans can make an exception for one hazard (COVID) then it opens those laws (employer requirements) up to legal challenges over the thousands of other hazards they apply to. That could seriously erode worker safety standards, resulting in more workplace illness, injury, & death, & we all know Republicans would love to do it as a gift to big business.

There's a lot more at stake here than most people realize.

From the link below:

"OSHA based their authority to enforce COVID-19 safety procedures primarily on two standards. The first was the General Duty Clause, Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, 29 U.S.C.A. § 654(a)(1).

The second standard related to virus protection are the personal protective equipment (PPE) regulations found in 29 C.F.R. § 1910 and 29 C.F.R. § 1926, which require using gloves, eye protection and respiratory protection when job hazards warrant it.

Specifically, if respirators are needed to protect workers from exposure to a dangerous condition, an employer must implement a comprehensive respiratory protection program that meets the requirements of the respiratory protection standard of 29 C.F.R. § 1910.134."

I am fortunate to live in a mask mandate state. The only person I have seen without a mask in the grocery store lately was a man on supplemental oxygen. Not a good idea. There are a lot of older folks who just don't have the tech skills to figure out curbside pick-up/deliveries.

I can see where lawsuits might be tricky. Somebody could be infected at a friend's home and then sue their own employer because deep pockets. But it seems like this very ambiguity might be enough to protect employers from nuisance suits? Hard to prove the infection came from locus A and not from locus B. But there should be consequences for flagrant failure to maintain reasonable workplace health standards. Sue 'em.

You couldn't see it, but there was an axe sticking out of the right side of my head. Nothing really touched it, either.

You're describing what I had in March. The cough lasted about a month after the fever finally broke for good. The taste and smell were sporadic until very recently. The disease is a liar--you'll feel OK for a while in the second week, then the temperature will come back, then it will break and you'll be drenched, and the cycle will repeat.

If it starts to get painful to breathe, hospital. If your nail beds or lips start to get dusky, hospital.

This was weird because of what I didn't have--no real upper respiratory symptoms like sneezing or sore throat (until it got raw from coughing), no runny nose. no body aches except accessory muscles from coughing. It was just headache, c0ugh, tight chest,. so so fever, and loss of smell and taste.

Oh, and I'm older than you are.

Critical Care COVID-19 Management Protocol
(updated 9-28-2020)
Prophylaxis
While there is very limited data (and none specific for COVID-19), the following “cocktail” may
have a role in the prevention/mitigation of COVID-19 disease.
■ Vitamin C 500 mg BID and Quercetin 250 mg daily
■ Zinc 75-100 mg/day
■ Melatonin (slow release): Begin with 0.3mg and increase as tolerated to 2 mg
at night
■ Vitamin D3 1000-3000 u/day
■ Famotidine 20-40mg/day
Mildly Symptomatic patients (at home):
■ Vitamin C 500mg BID and Quercetin 250-500 mg BID
■ Zinc 75-100 mg/day
■ Melatonin 6-12 mg at night (the optimal dose is unknown)
■ Vitamin D3 2000 - 4000 u/day
■ ASA aspirin 81-325 mg/day (unless contraindicated)
■ Famotidine 40mg BID (reduce dose with renal impairment)
In symptomatic patients, monitoring with home pulse oximetry is recommended.
Ambulatory desaturation below 94% should prompt hospital admission
You can order off of Amazon for the things you don't have at home. The most important thing to have is a Pulse Oximeter and thermometer.

I had to buy thermometer, pulse oximeter, Vit C, Zinc, Vit D, and luckily my drugstore had no contact pick up so was able to do this safely. My nurse friend told me to eat semi-solid food, drink at least 8 glasses of water & walk 5 min. every 2 hours while awake plus a lot of what you said, and I am some better today after all of this. Today I am going to try to walk for more than 5 min. at a time, but will see how I do. It's irritating, the rest of the family had this at some time and got over it much sooner, but being the oldest, it's hanging on for me.

I do have a question about the oxygen rate. Are you saying lower than 94 while active is bad? Mine got down as low as 92, but that was after walking, and it went back up to 95 when I sat down. That was a few days ago and I am better now, resting oxygen didn't get below 95 yesterday.

There was a woman working in the back with him and she refused to put on a mask. He even brought her one of his extras but she wouldn't put it on. When he told his boss, she said she was too busy to address it, all the while her mask was below her nose. The woman he worked alongside called in the next day with a positive diagnosis, but the boss didn't tell anyone until after a week later. That's how this spread.

I'm going to try to contact OSHA about this today. I know our state has no mandate, but I'll try reporting it anyway.

because of thoughtless, clueless anti-masker covidiots who are completely lacking in empathy.

Anti-masker covidiots are like little terrorist vampire losers, who have no lives, and the only sense of personal power they've ever had comes from feeding on the fear and distress they know that they cause in others by not wearing masks in public places.

It would not surprise me at all if they, at some point, discovered that they were infected, and then felt joy and pleasure in knowing that they had infected and harmed innocent people who caught the virus from them.

So sorry about what happened to you. Hugs and positive energy to you and yours, get well soon.
